Default Nishijin Thunderbird PowerFlash X 2

Picked up 2 Thunderbird Power Flash machines today. They were listed on Facebook, but not under Pachinko. When I search the internet for machines I search Pachinko, Plinko, Chinese pinball and pinball. I have found machines under all of these.
These were listed as Plinko machines. Listed for $100 for the pair. After 1 week, they drop the price to $50 for the pair. I was able to get them both for $40 total.

Once I got there to look at them, I could see that all the inside electrical parts were there, but if they worked, I could only wait till I got back home to check them. Once home, I hooked a 24V transformer up and everything works as it should on both machines.

I don't know what the deal is with all the Christmas lights, running everywhere through out both machines. I also got a couple of containers of ball bearings, (as the seller called them).

One will get cleaned up and put in my collection. Really haven't decided what to do with the other.

I've started cleaning up one of the machines. I started with the playfield and pretty much have it done.

I took everything off and put on a new playfield. I really didn't want to spend $50 for a single colored playfield, so I decided to make my own. I used a piece of poster board and spray painted it. Once the paint was dry, I covered it with .005" Clear Dura-Lar. It was about $6 for the playfield.

Nails, cleaned and polished. All the white plastic pieces, (tulips, thunderbird, King/Jack and Queen light covers), were whitened with Salon Care 40. I wasn't happy with the stickers on the tulips, so I made some new ones.

Like every other restoration I have seen you do, this is fantastic. I love the playfield and since the original was a single color I think you have preserved the original look of the machine. The retrobriting looks great. Did you have to repaint any of the pieces?

    Thank you.

Really wasn't much that needed painted, everything cleaned up pretty well. I did touch up the 2 spinners and the "K" on the payout light cover needed repainting.

I also painted the silver on the 4 blocking spinners. They were originally green.

i like the playfield color - matches the blue/green that i've seen on the thunderbirds for sale.

once thing i had read was that the playfield is originally supposed to be the green color you see on card tables. what color did you see when you removed the playfield components to reveal the (assumedly) unfaded board underneath?

Surprisingly, the playfield really wasn't faded. It was a pastel green color under the playfield pieces also.

The color I chose, deep mint, was a personal preference and keeping it close to the original. IMO it gives it a "richer" look.

The original color is the color of the felt on the tables when I play cards at the Lodge.
The color I chose is the color of the felt on the tables when I play cards at the Casino.

I replaced the original bulbs with 12V LED's ,that screw into the original sockets, and using a 12V transformer. For the solenoids, I'm using a old computer transformer, 20V.

I'm planning on getting a center tap transformer to power both the lights and solenoids.
