    Default Power Tulip Machine

This is the latest machine, I've picked up.

I have no idea who the manufacturer is. There isn't any branding on it anywhere.
    pt7.jpg pt3.jpg pt6.jpg pt5.jpg

The machine does not work, the electronic pieces that would have made it work are missing.
    pt2.jpg

Here is a translation of how it worked.
    pt.png

I have tested the solenoids that are there and they all work. So, I'm thinking I could rework the playfield board, front and back, keeping the solenoid that opens all 10 tulips and the UFO Robot Goldrake Theme and fit a model B rear plastics to it and mount it in a Nishijin frame. That way I would have a working machine, that pays out balls.
What if...the HOKEY POKEY, is what it's all about?

Very cool 10 yen machine. There are a lot of variation in the 10 yen machines. Cait001 is a wealth of knowledge about these machines and will probably have a ball with this one. I know she owns at least 1 that she has posted here and on her blog.

This is the first Power Tulip I have ever seen. I am sure that someone with a bit of knowledge could create a board to make the machine function as intended again. Basically you drop your coin and it gives you a ball and opens all the tulips. The ball is self contained like an arrangeball. If you hit a tulip it returns your ball to shoot again. If you don't hit a tulip, game over. If you 10 hit tulips the machine kicks out a token as a prize. Similar to how an arrangeball pays out tokens. The only thing that comes out into the front tray is your prize token if you hit 10 tulips.

Pretty cool! Where did you find something like that?! Looks in good shape besides the missing components, quite a challenging project!

    Thanks,

It was listed for $100 on Facebook Marketplace. I offered $40 and now I'm the new owner.
The owner said he bought it at an estate auction, about a year ago, and was going to fix it up.
But, he decided it was more of a project than he wanted.

Wow; you stole that thing! I can see how it’s going to be quite a project though, but if anyone is up for it…seems like it’s you!

Sounds like similar situation to my 11 tulip Mahjong Sanyo score for $25 from FB marketplace. Sure beats ebay…

No worries on changing the playfield. That was one of reasons I wanted the machine.

I started re-working the playfield board and got a little bit done. I removed everything from the playfield. Cleaned and polished everything and touched up any paint.

My biggest concern was getting the hole in the bottom rail, for the ball striker, to line up. The existing rail was no where close to lining up. The outer rail had to be repositioned, because it ran across where the opening would be for the jackpot balls to exit.

Using an old Nishijin playfield board and old removed playfield. I was able to get everything lined up and knew where to cut and drill all the holes/openings.

After getting the openings cut and drilling new holes for the rails and reattaching them. I had to use a Nishijin bottom rail to replace the existing one, because the existing one was about an inch short to line up with the opening for the bottom tray. The outside rail also had to be added on to, so it would line up with the opening.

Now, it was time for a test fit. The bottom rail fit perfect and lined up with the ball striker.

Originally all the tulips were blocked, with the one pay/counting pocket in the center, that opened all the tulips. But, now that this is going to be a machine that pays out like a regular Pachinko machine. It needs the tulips to act as pay pockets. I removed the blocking nails from the top 3 tulips and the bottom 3 tulips. The 4 tulips across the center, I left blocked.

I plan on reworking the ball channels, on the back, so if a ball enters the top left tulip it will also open the center and bottom tulip on the left. Same thing on the right side and for the center. The center pay pocket will still open all 10 tulips. I also changed the 1 thru 10 numbered counting lights, to be the jackpot light, being there isn't anything to count anymore.

oh man it looks like I saw this too late, alas I wish you had kept it in the original frame!

But yeah it's a 10Y machine with a basic ruleset. And as you can tell from the dangling edge connector, it's missing it's circuit board but could probably be retrofitted with a Raspberry Pi board and custom software.
I totally would have made you an offer on it if you had wanted to sell it. I love 10 yen machines.

That's something I didn't like. Pretty poor planning on someone's part.

I have already re-positioned them, I just couldn't handle the figures with spinner heads.

But, look at the positive side. I now have some "hard to find" parts for someone looking to restore one.

I worked on getting the Model B back attached to the playfield.

I decided to leave the solenoid and power tulip switch in their original places. There really wasn't any good solution to relocate them and get the back to fit as normal.

So, that meant that the rear plastic's need to be set out, from the back of the playfield, 1 1/2" to clear the solenoid.

Here are some pictures of what I came up with. I cut all the openings needed and made ramps/extensions to cover the 1 1/2" span. Mounted it with hinges, so easy access to the inside, if necessary.

I was able to get the rear plastics attached to the board today. I also put a longer wire that operates the little flag lever, in the shooter/payout tray window.
Everything lined up and the balls go through the machine, just as if it was mounted directly to it.

I also reworked an existing cabinet, to put the machine in.

Next is getting it wired up.

Got it wired up today. I put all the wiring inside, so you don't see any wiring from the back of the machine.

The machine is completely done. I did decide to block all the tulips, as designed, and play the machine as it was meant to.
With the different nail arrangement it does play different than a normal machine.

Here are a few pictures and a short video.
