Default In honor of my grandfather…finally restoring this

Hello! Well, after having this beauty hidden under my daughter’s bed for the past eight years, I am finally beginning the restoration process. From what I have learned online, this is a 1974 Sanyo. I know they are a dime a dozen. But, it belonged to my grandfather, so it is special to me.

My mom/uncle/cousins let me claim this after my grandmother passed almost ten years ago (we were going through the house she shared with my late grandfather). We were able to locate a large bag of balls and several fuses in original packaging. It hung on the wall of my grandparents’ den as long as I can remember. I do remember the lights functioning when I was very young (late 70s). At some point, however, the machine stopped working…most likely because no one could remember how to reset it (and we were still using dial-up internet).

I promised I would make it functional again…the time is now.

This forum has been so helpful. I had no idea that the machine worked on gravity and that a battery/electrical charge is not strictly necessary (see, I told you I’m a newbie).

I am currently focusing on cleaning everything on the front panel.

It’s amazing what a difference polishing the brass pins makes!!

I’ve attached some pictures of my progress thus far.

Many thanks for all of the sage advice I have learned by lurking to date.

    Cheers!

Hello. I do…I believe it is hidden by the front panel being open and faced downwards. Thank you!

it attaches to the back side (inside) of the "door facing down"

from the front the balls are forced single file from left to right.. they go on to the sq hole where they would enter a seesaw 180 degree ramp mech.. this mech loads one ball at a time to the track so the shooter can strike it..

I don't see it in any pics.. bummer if your missing that.. its going to ba a hard one to replace if you are..

Oh, got it! Yes, I do have that. I had removed it from the back to start cleaning it. It was really dirty. Thank you so much!

Yes, thank you! It was one of the first parts I removed to clean. It was quite dirty! I’m still not pleased with its level of cleanliness…I recently ordered a small rotary tool (waiting on Amazon). Hopefully that will help!!

Just a heads up, not sure if you know or not.

Sanyo's are notorious for launcher alignment issues.

That light green box located just above the launcher and to the right is used to adjust the launcher's position either towards you or away. Rotating the green plastic can either hold the launcher back or push the launcher forward. If the launcher is too far forward, the stop-play tray door will not slide closed when low on balls. If launcher is too far back against the playfield, there may be a trap gap between the play tray and the launcher causing straying balls to get caught in-between. Hope this info helps as I was puzzled what it was used for at first.

    How's the restoration going?
