    Default Daiichi American Eagle

This is my latest project. The lighting was changed to LED's, there was only one light on this machine, so I added lighting to the center feature. Basically, the machine was cleaned up, playfield pieces repainted/touched up and painted some exterior pieces.

Was there a need to paint the front trays or just a personal choice? I’d be interested to know how the paint holds up in the long run with the metal balls rolling and bouncing around.

    I like the trays painted.

Balls wear down the paint on the playfield spinners and I don't see any reason why the trays wouldn't wear also.

Some people here say that paint worn/chipped spinners, water stained playfields, tarnished nails, etc. add "character" to the machine.

So, I guess these painted trays will fall into that category. Just how much "character" they get and how long it takes, I don't know.

Well, I've decided I'm not liking the playfield on this machine.

I'm thinking something Americana would go better with the eagle center feature.

But, changing the playfield on a Daiichi machine isn't like a Nishijin machine. It is like it is laminated on. (Guess that's why it has no water stains)

So, I may use the eagle center feature in another machine, (a Nishijin machine).

I'll let you know what I come up with.

I removed the eagle center feature and I'm going to put it a Nishijin machine. I'm going to design a custom playfield for it, I can't really find anything already made up.

So, that left me with a Daiichi machine, with no center feature and all I have, on hand, are just some basic, no name center features. so, I decided to get a little creative. Using a Disney medallion, I attached it the center feature. I made a overlay to go around the outside rail, to give it more color. Repainted the spinners and changed the pay pocket pieces.

I also changed the pass through piece, above the center feature. There was a hole underneath the pass through piece, I guess it was used on other games Daiichi put out. So, I replaced the pass through with a pay pocket and added some channels to the back, so it would be counted as a win.

    Here's the pictures.

Every time I see one of your restorations it is inspiring. This machine looks great. I will say I prefer the original center attraction but the Disney one is pretty cool too.

    Thank you,

I liked the eagle center feature better, also.

I just didn't like the playfield and to change it on a Daiichi machine is a little more involved.

I have decided on a playfield and should get it all put together tomorrow.

I think you are going to like what I come up with on the Nishijin American Eagle.

It's official !!!, It is now a Nishijin American Eagle machine.

I made the playfield from images printed off of the computer. The lights are all LED, Using light strips for the side and upper win lights and 2 small led's in the center feature. One red led in the shooter tray window, for the hopper empty. LED light strip mounted along the top, for a playfield light.

The lock was de-pinned so the machine can be opened, when in a cabinet and mounted against the wall.

The rear plastics were missing the jackpot cover and the see-saw cover. I made a jackpot cover from a plastic holder, I found at the gas station. (I think it was used to hold credit card application flyers.) The see-saw cover I made for aluminum coil stock, cut a square opening in it and glued a thin piece of plexglas to the inside of it.

On your restorations do you replace the spinners or paint them? If you paint them, what paint do you use?

I paint them. I use Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover spray paint.
