Question Nashijin Model B centerpiece what does this go to

So I'm new to ask of this, I'm trying to restore this for myself the best I can for fun and play it later, potentially to sell to break even. Anyways I've got this and it looks like something goes on the back side of the centerpiece. The machine was broken beaten and rusted missing a couple pieces and half the screws on the loader... But does anyone know what went by the dragon's head? I want to say it's for a rubber band so they can hold a couple balls and drop them in bunches.

Does anyone know? I included some pictures for reference.

I doubt they are for rubber bands--that's just my intuition. They look more suited to hold the loops on the ends of springs...

Are there any movable pieces that might be spring loaded?

They may also be axles for parts that are no longer present, but that's probably a long shot too.

I do like that center feature!

The only moveable pieces are both heads of the dragons. They tilt down as if bowing at the top. And are stopped either side by the orange pin. One from the bottom gold pin the other is from the shelf the balls lay on or strike. It looks like it could cup balls by the dragon's hands. When testing it it can hold 4 balls, 3 gets stuck on release, and 2 is nearly flawless.

Those brass pins are just the counter weight for the ball. There is zero access thru the playfield pins. Why they put 2 vs 1 heavier one who knows
