Sure, will do! Hopefully I can find some someone with some replacement ball trays or else I’ll have to rig something up and get creative.

I’m going to try to get at least the mechanical /electromechanical going and put it next in line to be restored if successful! I’m still finishing up a Model C now.

The playfield looks like it might clean up a bit, a few water stains, but decent colors. Way more colorful than a Powerflash I must say; and exactly 1 more tulip; it’s the 1 upper of transitional pachinkos!

It is actually a Sanyo; not Sankyo, my mistake. Guess I need a mod to update the thread title.

    Default 11 tulip Sankyo

Hooked it up to test the solenoids; first time choose unwisely and picked the wrong curcuit and burnt out the low ball light. second time it works and fired up the solenoids for first time in decades likely!

It plays not unlike a Powerflash; a bit simpler. Top center pocket opens all tulips; yellow (aka jokers) close them all and must be avoided. Getting one on the top tulips on the left, center, and right (upper) tulips opens all 3 tulips on that side. It’s a really cool machine! Unique for sure!

    Fixed the thread title!!

So I guess it's mahjong themed with the tiles and tulip stickers, like how Powerflash is poker or card themed..cool!!

This one is going to be challenging to restore, still no leads on finding a replacement upper tray; I can’t even find a picture of another comparable machine with this tray for reference.

Already tried swapping over front doors/trays from a couple other vintage machines of assorted manufacturers but not the same fitment.

I think I’m going to have to get creative and make a Frankenstein upper tray by hack-sawing a good Nishijin or Sankyo tray along where the old tray broke off and Bondo it together. Maybe spray paint it white to match. Just hope it doesn’t look too terrible!

Or maybe I can find a different tray that will fit the door I’ve got with the “Automatic” emblem. The search goes on!

The lower tray is an oddball fitment too; but less of a priority.

    Default 11 tulip Sanyo

    No trays?! No problem!

I quickly realized these trays are as rare as hens teeth, so had to improvise with a New Gin aluminum upper tray and a modified (hack sawed ) Nishijin lower reward overflow tray sourced off eBay; paid more for the trays than the entire machine! I wanted to keep the original look as much as possible and preserve it while still being 100% functional. I’ve cleaned up all the rear mechanics too; so it’s halfway restored now basically; payouts working, solenoids working, shooter working.

Soon will tear into the playfield and get a new one made.

How's the resto on the Sanyo Automatic going? Would love to see a Youtube video of it running!

Unfortunately no progress besides playing it a bit; been on vacation a while, but plan to take the playfield apart this weekend, polish the nails, then will be a couple weeks to get a new playfield and a day or two to reassemble. This one deserves a custom cabinet too!

Things are happening today; removing all the wires, solenoids, it’s a whole different animal to what I’m used to dealing with, taking my time!

Playfield board is removed; about to pull the nails and start polishing! Water damage is bad; playfield replacement is definitely needed!

Nishijins seem to be the worst about the fading; and they make up about 90% of the vintage market it seems. Too bad no manufacturer is immune to excessive water staining from some overzealous pachinko cleaner!

Sankyo and Daichi use malaster and don't stain but makes nail pulling a bugger as the backgrounds will chip.

I chat with my younger brother who is a collector of model Steam Engines and when I describe the intricacies of the Vintage pachinko machines and the moderns I get the feeling that he is trying to understand them but just loves rattling off specifications of the Real locomotives instead

Oh well I have the 2002 Go by Train and had the Galaxy Railways and the Go by Train 2 and I do have the Plug and Play Amazon.com yellow Go By Train Simulator.

And I do love my Power Flash "Alice in Wonderland/Looking Glass " pachinko (Chinaman version modified).

I am very interested in what Playfield backing you are going to use .

I’m going with “stock” playfield art custom reproduction done by pachinkorestorations.com since this one is kinda special, one of a kind, want to keep it as close to original as possible; while still looking as new and nice as possible (considering it was broke and neglected when I got it); I’m just too picky about water stains ands they ruin it for me! I have no qualms about changing playfields on a dime a dozen regular vintage pachinko but this one is too unique to change.

Big thanks in advance to Bill Cardwell for helping me with this!

Just got the new playfield; so now things can start moving along. Making some progress; nails are highly polished now and I’m sanding the playfield board today and plan to put on the new playfield.

I need to replace all 44 of the tiny screws that hold the tulips on the playfield; Sanyo used standard screws (non-Phillips head) that were a big pain to remove and got damaged, and looked terrible anyway.

Any tips on the size to order? Can’t find anything in local hardware stores this small.

I guess will need to order from mcmaster.com unless any other ideas?
