    Default Nishijin Problems

I have been repairing pinball machines for many years. Electronics etc etc not a problem - or at least not a major one. So I thought why not diversify a little? I'm retired so need hobbies etc etc.

So when two Nishijin Pachinko machines came up at a local auction I thought "why not", "can't be too difficult"? I can hear you laughing from here. And New Zealand is a long way from where most of you reading this are I'm guessing.

And another reason was I've worked in Tokyo briefly a few times over the years - visited a few Parlours etc etc - so I bought the pair - and not expensive either.

Connected them both hoping for the best.

The more modern of the two started and seemed to play ok. Music as well as the screen. But after about 15 minutes the display went out. Everything else still working. Stripping the machine down to get at the display I then tried the trick of shining a bright light into the front. And I can see the images changing. So it's a backlight problem. Looked online to try and source a schematic or manual that shows what sort of voltages to expect. ie the sort of detail that is freely available on pinball machines. You can start laughing again! Nada obviously.

So I look at the second machine. This is a little older - still with a display etc etc. This one plays - but nothing else. Looking at the power supply I can see some serious damage with three transistors and the LM305A chip all literally in pieces. The chip I have already, together with an appropriate range of diodes and caps. But the two transistors are so badly damaged that there is no way of finding out what they were.

So a quick obvious question first. Is there anywhere I can get hold of a schematic for these two machines?

And the second question assumes (after the laughter subsides) that they are not easily available. Does anybody have any idea what the three transistors are?

    I'll upload some pictures now.

Some years ago a couple of our members found the I think it is a Casio LCD screen replacement and/or the cfl light array behind the LCD Screen.

Thanks for both really quick replies. Looks like I’ve got some reading to do re the screen and a lot more messing about with the other one. Shame about the lack of cct diagrams - not at all used to that. Looks like I need to develop a more intuitive approach to fault finding. But I’m in no hurry, it’s just a hobby after all.

And the display unit and its controller has Sharp written all over it. Should’ve mentioned that before.

Any more comments please feel free - and I will keep this post up to date with progress (always provided that there actually is any).

    And thanks again. Most appreciated.
