Default Grommets for play field door latch

I’m working on my grandparents’ machine and I can’t get the play field door to latch. After spending entirely too long thinking the latches were somehow pointing the wrong way, I realized they line up fine with the frame, but the entire assembly is too far forward. Taking a closer look at the back, it appears there may have been some sort of rubber gasket asking as a spacer at the top and bottom that has crumbled away and disappeared.

Am I on the right track, and does anybody have a specific suggestion of a replacement I might be able to pick up from stock at Ace or Hone Depot? I don’t really want to carry the machine around town to take in for fittings.

    Thanks Pachitalk!

I don't know if there ever was a grommet where I believe you think there was one. But if you want to put one in there, auto parts stores should have them. Having recently been looking in an Advance Auto Parts store for a clip, I saw grommets for sale on the same rack.

If you want to test your theory as to why the door won't shut, shove in a piece of cardboard or whatever to bias the door the way the grommet would.

I would need more pictures from different angles to tell you where that spring should go but where it is ain't it.

More pictures. Best I can offer for the next three weeks until I get back to Minnesota.

Ok that bar is meant to be on the other side of the metal plate. Also doesn't have anything in it as a buffer
