    Default NewGin unknown history...

    Good day all,

I am new to the world of Pachinko machines, picked up my 1st today, and although I spent a few hours getting it to work, I know nothing about it's heritage, I hope it can be uncovered, I have added some images.

    Thank you,
    Mark

Thank you all, sorry I reposted, due to having issues finding my 1st post yesterday, please moderator, feel free to delete today's, although it does have more and better images.

1974 or 1975 perfect, thank you.

    My questions are as follows:

    1) New Gin is the name on the front, but is it only the American name, is there a Chinese name this is also known as?

    2) Any idea of the voltage needs? My post from this morning has images of the back, there do not appear to be any motors or actuators, but I am not sure, there are two red wires leading into the blue plastic cover, I presume it is for a reed switch

    3) Not many balls came with it < 50, so the two mechanisms 'low ball' detection need to be rubber banded so it works mechanically, the balls were not rusty, but again not many

    4) I presume these are many, any thoughts on value, 'as-is' and cleaned up (which with winter in Michigan, it will give me something to do)

    Thank you,

    Hi there,

    1) New Gin is the company name. Japanese, not Chinese. Lots of info on Wikipedia or Google.
    2) They are 10V units and will operated fine on 9V. Lots of threads here to steer you in the right direction.
    3) 300-500 is a minimum to operate the machine and be able to enjoy it. A few companys sell balls. Search the forum or Google / Ebay
    4) As-is, it's worth as much as you paid for it. Anywhere from free to $40 would be a reasonable deal. Cleaned and running with 500 balls, maybe $100. "Restored" is only worth the effort if it is special to you.

Woolworth/KMart/etc imported these by the shipload in the 70's. The Woolworths sticker is neat, but only for interests sake. You'll find that story as you read.

Hope that helps. Lots of great resources on here. Spend some time and read at least the Vintage threads.

    /K

    1. pachinko machines are japanese, not chinese and new gin is an american name-ish but that was the name that the japanese company called itself.
    3. you'll need several hundred clean balls for it to work properly
    4. cleaned up and fully functioning maybe a hundred bucks or so. as-is maybe half that.

if the wiring is factory then it is 10 volts.. some use a 9 volt battery i use 12 volt wall warts.. incadesant bulbs are perty good taking over or under power for the short term.. leds not so much.

more balls.. it will operate with a few hundred.. you can play it for a bit with 500. it will hold 1000

i would agree cleaned and detailed 100.00 possibly 120.00... having enough balls with it will be a huge selling point..

Hey Mark depending where you live in Michigan I can get some balls to you at a fair price. Private message me if you'd like.
