    Default Urgent Help Needed

I am trying to build a wall of cabinets so that my new Pachinkos will sit flush.

I had the bright idea (not) of building the start of the sub frame directly on to the wall ( thought it would add stability) but now I'm stuck as to what to do to build it out from the wall.

Hopefully after sleep, I will have a brain wave but failing that can anyone steer me as to what I should be doing next.

As you can tell, DIY is defo not my forte.

    Thanks in advance.IMG_20201129_005439.jpg

why not take the odd length uprights off, place sheet goods / plywood on the horizontal cleat and create a shelf that is 12 or so inches (30ish centimeters) deep.. with front supports to the floor then doors on the front to hide / storage.

build stand alone cabinets for each machine so you can move them around as you see fit

Forgot to mention the odd lengths are not fixed, they are there just to represent where the machines will be going.
I was planning to do 30cms but may have to build it a little bigger as told some of the machines I have are deeper than the standard depth. Thanks will give your suggestion a try

I thought the vertical wood was fixed as well. I attach a horizontal 2X3 or 2X4 TO THE STUDS usually with 2 1/2" or 3' drywall screws. Then frame out a piece of plywood for a top. (with the one screwed to the wall as the 4th side) Then legs to the floor. For me...I'm typically building a work bench, so ther legs get braced with more 2X4s. But since you are building cabinets, plywood (or other sheeting material) will support the legs and give storage space. In Dayton, Habitat For Humanity has a store that sells all the tear out from old houses. I used to buy oak cabinet doors of assorted sizes for $5 to $10 each. That way I didn't have to learn how to make doors.
Once your base has been made, you can make individual cabinets, as Mopar suggested. Or, you can make all combined in one enclosure. But a strong base is required, no matter how you decide to do the top. Did you attach to studs? There WILL be a lot of weight on it.

My woodwork skills suck. So I brought industrial steel racking. Its floor mounted and rated at 200KG per shelf.

For my model railway. I did the same batons round the side and then l used shop brought pillars to support the base boards away from the wall. B&Q do a range of different styles and length and weights. With adjustable feet to get the height level.

Not finished yet. But here you go.

Very nice start! I once made a tank stand for a 75 gallon fish tank. I made it with 3/4" oak boards. It was so heavy and expensive! If I were to do it again. I would have used "oak plywood. It is a thin sheet of "good 1 side" plywood, with oak veneer on the good side. Cutsand fits like plywood...finishes like beautiful oak! Add nice trim work...and it looks like fine furniture! Costs a bit more than regular plywood, but costs WAY less than real oak boards.

    Hi

Have you thought about maybe using french cleats for hanging them from the wall instead of setting them on shelves?

Its possible. But these ultra large agro style machines would probably suit a bench style.

At least 2 of my machines that I have are super heavy, so Id be very nervous about putting them direct on to the wall, they weigh a good 50kg each and the walls are only plasterboard, so went for the safe option of putting them on the desk that i've built.

I hope to get the main frame built tonight once I finish work so can at least start to unpack my machines and get them installed to see how they look and whether they feel stable etc with the doors open.

Build freestanding cabinets for each machine. Fasten the top of the cabinet to the wall. Not sturdy enough yo support the weight...but to resist it from tipping when you open the door. Otherwise, you cam make the bottom of the cabinet (the foot?) deep enough (front to back), to keep it from tipping forward. The door is the whole weight of the machine...the cabinet and frame combined wont be heavy enough to hold it back.

There are wooden supports behind each frame that a screwed to a frame behind the wall, so will more than support the weight of the door
