    Default Nishijin american football

I picked up a American Football machine today. The sticker on the playfield says 51, so that makes it from 1976, I think. I had been looking for another machine to work on, ever since I restored my Circuit Racer. There are several machines for sale in my area and this one just "caught my eye" with the football theme.

It's really in not to bad of shape, as far as rust. But, it is pretty dirty and has a major ball jam. The playfield has some water stains and needs some repainting on some playfield pieces.
But, as far as I can tell all the pieces are there and it should work.
My plans are to completely remove all the plastic on the back and clean everything. Replace the playfield, I think something without fish. (How is that related to football?)

Repaint the spinners, center feature, pay pockets, etc.. Most likely add some LED lighting and maybe add an LED to the center feature.

Clean and polish all the nails and chrome on the front. I may swap out the shooter tray with my Circuit Racer. This one says ELEX ROTARY on it and I believe American Football is not. But, Circuit Racer is. (Yes or NO???)

I have an American football machine and I never saw any extra electrical parts on it. Like the out of place playfield, the factory threw together disparate pieces to make a machine--my theory. That is pretty common with pachinko machines in my experience.

Could also have been a replacement part that has that badge...

    I recognize that playfield...

What’s it’s got to do with football though?

What new playfield are you thinking?

I don’t see any solenoids; don’t fear, the “regular” pachinkos can be pretty fun as well!

I thought you would recognize that playfield. It goes great with the theme of your machine, but not so much with mine.

I've been looking at playfields at Pachinko Planet, I was thinking of a playfield from a 1964 Marusin machine called (Pop-Art #1). It's colorful and the green and white areas remind me of a football field.

Is it that "big of a deal" not to use a Nishijin Playfield? (opinions please)

I dunno about others, but me it’s not a big deal to be “factory correct” necessarily; it’s not like they’re going to be judged like it’s Concourse d’Elegance for classic cars!

That 60’s one is a really cool playfield!

Might not hurt to check out pachinko restorations too; a bit pricier but they include a Mylar like clear protective film that gives a nice glossy appearance in person.

The plain green playfield they have would work with a football theme; or could always go totally custom!

    Thanks for the link.

I have checked there before and was thinking about the solid green. But, couldn't decide. I was thinking it was just to plain.

The playfields at Pachinko Planet also come with a 3mil glossy laminate covering. (I was pleased with the Circuit Racer playfield, from there.)

It's a little dark, inside the center feature. Thought I'd add an LED to it, to brighten it up some.

The playfield arrived and I was able to get the machine put back together.

Basically, I disassembled the whole machine and cleaned everything. The playfield was replaced, playfield pieces repainted, and replaced all the lights with LED's.

Originally, the red light,(upper left), lite up when the hopper was empty and the orange light, (right side), lite up on payouts. I have it wired so that on payouts, the red and orange lights both lite up and when the hopper is empty, the red light still lights, but I also added a red light in the shooter tray window. All the LED lighting is powered by a 9V power supply.

Enough of the boring stuff, here are some pictures.

I got around to building a cabinet today. I made it with a drawer at the bottom, so the lost/win balls drop down into it. The top has a hopper refill trough, with sloping ramps.

Without opening the door or going to the back of the machine, I can pull the drawer out and dump it into the hopper refill trough.

    Here are some pictures.

This has nothing to do with American football, right? Isn't American football rugby?

The center theme of this pachinko and a couple more vintages I've seen have American (NFL) football as the theme.. Rugby is a Very different game than American Football..
