Default Newbie- What is wrong with my machine

    Hi, Everyone

I want to apologize in advance for what will most likely be a couple of VERY stupid questions.

I'm brand new at this, never owned a slot machine before, but was just gifted one from a friend.

It's an older machine, he said probably early-mid 90s, but appears to be in great shape. The only problem with it is that when you drop the coin in, it falls straight through and does not register.

I took it thinking I could figure out what was causing it, but haven't been able to as of yet.

I've done some research to find similar models, but haven't had any luck- I've found diagrams of machines that are similar, but not quite the same.

There is one wire that is not plugged in that I figured had something to do with it, but for the life of me I cannot find any ports that fit this- I'm not sure if it's related or not.

Any help is appreciated. I've attached a couple of photos if it helps.

    Thanks again in advance!

Does the coin or token fall straight through to the internal hopper or straight through to the coin tray on the front of the machine? Without looking personally at the machine, it would appear that the plug would go somewhere on the door. Take a photo of the entire door, especially the area that the plug can reach. If it cant reach, we can eliminate that area.

Coin falls straight to the tray on the front. Here are a couple of videos, sorry for multiple, I had to stop in between to open it (they lost the key as well!)

    coin?? token??

these machines are not set up to take coin..

if someone moded the machine to take coin it may not take tokens any longer..

Poor word choice on my part. Shows I am new here!

I said “coins” and meant “tokens”, they gave me a boatload of tokens with it.

I know it hasn’t been modified. The folks who gave it to me got it new, never did anything to it. Said it worked fine but as their kids got older it didn’t get used as often, and then suddenly the next time they tried to use it this happened.

    Appreciate any help!

I had a bad solder joint on one of my Yamasas. It did the same thing. Look and see if you have any DC voltage at the coin mechanism coil. From the videos it looks like the photo sensor that actually reads the coin has three wires going to it, the coil should have two. On my machine, when an error accurs or greater than 50 credits, the coil releases and when tokens are inserted, they are diverted to the outside token tray.

I hope this didn't post twice, sorry of it did. Check your coin mechanism, I had a bad solder joint on the circuit board on one of my Yamasas. The coin sensor ( from the pic) looks like CN9 (4 wires) and CN10(? to the left of it) dissappears. I'm guessing that goes to the coin mechanism coil. On mine, if there is a trouble/ alarm code or more than 50 credits, the coil DC voltage is de-engergized (0 DC volts), diverting the tokens to the coin tray outside.

some machines don't like metallic tokens.. check them with a magnet.. not all tokens are created equally

Sorry for the delayed response, moving and this got put on the back burner. Took it apart and the coil is getting power to it.

I’m at a loss, seems like it should be something simple, but just can’t figure out what it is. Machine appears to be very clean and in good condition. I just grabbed a token with my hand and pushed down the chute so it credited, machine works fine when I do so, just can’t get the token to register on its own.

If I understand you correctly, if you push a token manually through the coin mechanism, it registers? But if you drop from outside the door through the token slot, it falls through to the tray and NOT credited? If this is the case, I would have to say the coil to devert the token is bad since you have voltage.

Since I’m new at this, never seen what the token operation is supposed to look like on drop.

From what I see, it looks like the coil is not pulling in the rail to divert the token into the machine to register. The coil has voltage, correct?

At the 12 second mark in the video, a coin comes down the shoot and looks like the coil SHOULD pull the silver diverter bar ( in the center of the pic ) to direct the coin down stream to the coin sensor to register it.

Somewhere there may be a missing spring. When no voltage is at the coil, to have the silver diverter bar back to a " neutral" position.
