Default How I build wall cabinets for my pachinko’s

Here is how I build wall cabinets for my pachinko’s. I use the plan design by Ken Hoke. I love this plan for the ease of capturing the spent balls in front and for being able to refill the ball payout tray without opening the machine. I changed the design at the bottom so there is just a shelf for a ball return tray.

I start by making very exact measurements of the machine that will go into the cabinet. I add 3/16” to the height and width and make sure I have ˝” from the back ball trays to the cabinet. I re-label the plan sheet to account for my unique measurements. I mark and drill all of the holes on the sides and counter sink them.

Now I assemble the parts and clamp them in place. Measure to make sure everything lines up. I use a hinge locator drill to drill pilot holes. This ensures that the pilot hole are centered so the screws do not move the part alignment. I use gold anodized deck screws. Insert screws and tighten. I do this step so that when I am ready to glue up, the holes will aid the locating of the parts. It is very important to measure at each step as 3/16th is very small and makes for a tight fit if something is not quite right. Assembling without glue in this first step allows for a last minute check to see if the machine fits. Take your machine and place in the cabinet.

Ready for glue up. Take one side of the cabinet and remove the screws. Now spread glue on the ends of the parts and place the side back on with screws. Slide the cabinet around and repeat for other side.

The wood I chose for this project is African Mahogany and Oak. I finish with sanding from 80 grit, 120, 220, and 400 grit. I do not use stain but put on 3 or 4 coats of clear lacquer gloss.

I hope this gives you some help with assembling wall hung cabinets.
