Default Best brass polish for nails

Time has come to polish the nails on my Powerflash and a few other modern machines I’ve got. In the past I’ve used Brasso polish with a shoelace and rag to polish (I don’t want to remove the nails completely; even though I do own a vibratory tumbler used for rock polishing that I’m sure would do wonders). Seems like a lot of trouble and tedious work to remove them completely.

Just wondering what polish some of the professional restorers use? Is there anything better than Brasso polish? This time I’m going to try polishing the heads of the nails with a wire brush on my Dremel tool and see if that helps them stay bright and shiny longer. Any tips or or suggestions are welcome; seems like after I polish with Brasso, results are just OK, better than ugly dark tarnish, but not super shiny like you see on new machines or professional restoration. Also, they seem to start to tarnish again after just a couple years.

I have never had any luck with felt wheels, but your mileage may very

I performed a science experiment; I polished one set of 5 nails with Blue Magic, another with Brasso (using same application method). The Blue Magic (left side) nails are is clearly shinier, I can even see a clear reflection in the heads of the nails! The Brasso nails on the right are cloudy, kinda dull by comparison.

After seeing the results first hand I’m never using Brasso again! I guess there’s a reason it’s slightly cheaper. They both smell absolutely terrible though, a very strong ammonia odor, too bad there’s not a non-nasty scented version of either. I might just see what it can do with the chrome trim on my “barn find” Powerflash compared to the Brasso I originally polished it up with...
