Default Resources for Comet II restoration

I have a Comet II inherited from my grandmother. Together with my middle-school boys, we want to restore it.

so far, most of the machine works: balls load and can be released, the firing mechanism works. The lights need re-wiring (maybe new switches for them?). The tulips seem sluggish, maybe just need a good clean.

However, jackpot payouts don’t work and there’s clear some parts missing/broken. I will take photos and post them.

SO, is there a good, detailed plan/diagram of the parts for a Comet II?

    thanks,
    Charlie

WELCOME to Pachitalk! You just found the greatest resource for restoring your machine. Not organized in a tidy little book or anything...but, if you search for Comet II, or some variation thereof...you will find a lot of help! They seem to suffer from a sticky see saw situation.
I have a Comet II myself. But it remains as found. Barely tested, and uncleaned. Post some pics of both front and back. Especially anything you have questions about.

comet II machines can be some of the hardest machines to get working right.. i never NEVER recommend adding weights or trying to change a vintage machine.. EXCEPT in the case of a comet II machine..

take your time and you can get them working.. small weight can sometimes help.. i have had to add lots of weight to one and one time after hours and hours of cleaning i got one to work with the addition of a small washer..

they will work correctly from time to time but most of them need help.. that makes them hard to fix for a first machine..

please post pics.. take lost of pics as you got and make sure you get it back together correctly.. resist the urge to use oils or lube.. these machines are make to work dry with out oils that attract dirt and will only give you a short term fix, with a long term mess..

    and of course

I have found that the pivot post on the payout ramp which resets the seesaw is usually the issue. I drill the ramp hole slightly larger and problem solved.
