    Default To Restore or Not

I've noticed that most are prone to restore machines by replacing the play field and other items if they are tarnished.

    Is this the prevailing opinion?

I like the fact that my machines have wear on them, it adds to the nostalgia.

Rust is another story, hate that.

My main goal is that the game play as if it was new. I love having to tweak them now and then.

Vintage machines are cheap and plentiful. I’d only restore one of those for some specific reason.

if it aint broke don't fit it..

i clean and detail them so they look there best for years to come.. i avoid machines that are cracked or broken..

i little wear is expected.. hell some of these machines are older then i am..

I’m currently working on my 110th restoration. (Vintage machines). I started by just cleaning them and progressed to tearing them down and rebuilding. To the best of my knowledge, I am one of a handful of restorers that replace playfields. They are the one thing that makes a huge difference in the look of the machine. Most original playfields have faded colors and water damage. Some people like that “ nostalgic “ look but most of my customers want new playfields.
It’s a lot of extra work but leads to a complete restoration on the machine rather than just a good cleaning.
    Just my two cents worth....
