    Default New to pachinko

I just picked this machine up for our game room at the house and I know absolutely nothing about it. I'm wanting to see if someone can tell me the ball size do I can order them to test the machine. Fo I need more than a handful to test? How old is this machine? Is there a manual I can find? Was it worth the $100?... I'm so new to this but remember when i was stationed in Okinawa back is 05 and walked into the casino these were so cool to watch and listen too.

It’s “Gachinko” part of the Maturi series; there’s 7 machines in the series (which are all somewhat retro and without LCD screens) Two in this series are arepachi; a more desirable type of gameplay vs the standard digipachi ones.

The apepachis are probably worth $150-300 due to rarity/more demand.

The rest are in the $60-120 range I’d say. I bought this one a couple months ago locally for $60 with 1000 balls included! That was a really lucky deal on my part though.

You need real pachinko balls; not ball bearings. 1000 to start I’d say. eBay is best place to buy.

Here’s a pic of the Majong “Strike it” one from the series:

How do I turn on the sound? Just ordered the pachinko balls so I'm anxious to completely check this thing out.

You just have to play it... get a ball in the start pocket.

I have 5 balls in the start area and have played this by shooting the balls around the play area. Lights are all going off but no sound.

That display is necessary only if you have a parlour card reader or note acceptor attached to the machine. If you insert 1000 yen (10 bucks) into the machine, it should exchange a portion of that money (Say 500 yen, 5 bucks) to balls. The remaining un-exchanged cash is shown as credit in that display.

The blue button will exchange another portion to balls if you choose. The red button will withdraw any unspent balance as an iCoin or a parlour card. Players would use a separate machine to get the hard cash.

It sounds like you are playing solely with balls so the display shouldnt be a big concern in your case.

Unless you score a ball in the start pocket (numbers will “spin”) the machine doesn’t play music. You can open up the door to it and drop a ball in the start pocket to confirm speakers are working.

I opened the door and placed a ball in the start hole and the numbers did start spinning but still no noise. Any switch somewhere I need to turn on? I'd there a manual somewhere?

Awesome to know. The objectors of this machine for us is to be able to walk up hit a button or dump a bunch of balls in the machine and start playing simply for fun. Will I need to manually release the balls everytime I want to play.

There could be aftermarket volume control(s) on it that need adjusted or don’t work. You probably want to look around on the back and around the speakers. There’s not a user manual (in English) I’m aware of.

Make sure no connectors got pulled loose. Good luck! Pics of rear of the machine might help.

People can sometimes get fed up with the insane volume and unplug the speakers!!

I looked at the speaker on mine (apparently this unit only has one little speaker; how quaint! ) These are retro indeed! (Newer machines have 2-5 speakers, and significantly louder, but better sound quality). It’s got a factory volume control with low/medium/high settings. I’d fiddle around with that and see if everything is connected. You’re going to have to open it up from the little latch on the left side rear; then push down on the other latch to open the hinged shooter area to access the speaker.

Never knew these machines had a factory volume control!

Thanks all. When I get back home after work I will be sending some photos. I do remember messing with the volume button but still no sound. Will get back and follow some wires. Mine I think has two speakers.

Not really sure what to take a pic of. So I took several. There is a volume control as well but it does nothing. Any other thoughts? Maybe a switch somewhere to turn the sound off completely?

If that factory volume control is anything like the aftermarket ones; they do go bad and need replaced/bypassed sometimes.

There’s no on/off switch for the speakers besides that volume control unless previous owner did something odd.

Not sure if you could just bypass it completely and connect those red/brown wires directly to the speaker wires? You may need to test both the input and output of that board with a multimeter; I believe the speaker wires are supposed to test at 4-16 ohms if I recall from a recent volume control install I did.

I’d pull and reconnect those connectors on the board to make sure they have a good connection too.
