Question Nishijin Model A Bowling Alley machine broken feeding mechanism need reference

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I come seeking your insight. I got my hands on this unit. In the 80's my grandmother (who had a thing for gambling in vegas before riverboat casino's showed up around Kansas City) bought one of these and let my sister and I play the hell out of one of these. My memory is too hazy to remember the exact model, but anyway when I saw one around boston that might need a little work, I thought ok cool, challenge accepted.

My 11 year old son who's got ADHD I think would really enjoy the zen like experience of firing off the balls. He's excited to see it working fully and I'd like to find a nice place to mount it in our house to make it a kind of pretty / display / entertainment piece as well.

I'm happy to report that as far as I can tell the unit actually is in very good shape (other than a little dusty) BUT what became clear was that something was off with the hammer/feeding area. If I put a ball manually inside the play area with the hammer, it shoots it off and everything goes smooth, however, what's not happening is the next ball going into the cue to subsequently fire off with the next flick.

Upon closer inspection behind it I suspect a small coiled metal wrap that appears to be cleanly snapped off is what's missing. I believe this piece must be something that brushes some other piece(s) above it that release the next ball in the same hammer pull back/release action.

However I have no reference to know what i'm trying to restore it too. It's also possible that maybe there is more missing, but i'm optimistic that this is all that's lacking to have this baby working fully again. it needs DC power restored as well but that's lower priority.

I hope these pics help. I know the spring's days are numbered but i've tested it and seems to be holding up well.. has a nice bounce like i remember so at least memory is good still, but will eventually see about replacing that too.

    Thanks!
    Caleb

    Hello and welcome.

Appears your missing the wire off the hammer which loads the next ball.20200315_191344-1.jpg

Oh that's awesome! Do you know if such a part can be bought? perhaps there are dimensions of it to see about the piece being crafted? seems like there are still A LOT of these machines out there in circulation and thus perhaps someone who sells particular parts?

Never seen one for sale. I have fabricated a couple from rigid bailing wire.

Check this thread for dimensions from a model B. Should be close or the same.

oh those pics look great.. i feel like maybe there is another piece missing based on those pics, but i'm going to have to really A/B compare those pics to my setup in realtime to confirm. Will try to inspect this evening when i'm home. thank you for these! I could see 3d printing being useful for fabricating some of these parts (plastic of course) but the metal ones might be trickier.. but at least they are more pr less metal wire that just needs manipulating so that's not like machining a gear or something like that.

It is definitely the model a shooter.. very exciting! I think i can see how things are currently miss-arranged and that missing metal piece.. likely the part that snapped off is lost to time..

when you fabricate it there is a few things to keep in mind.. at rest it should not touch the plastic loader..

and most important is can over rotate and fall off the plastic loader when at full pull..

    length is the key..
