Smile Just found this on facebook marketplace for $35.

I believe just from the features (and the autoloader conversion) that it's a 1969 model Nishijin Sophia. The expiration sticker says 四五 (Showa 45, 1970) but doesn't seem to have a month.

The seller said that they tried it, but they only had four rusty old balls so there's no way it would've worked. All four got stuck in different areas of the machine, I managed to loosen them out. Everything mechanical seems to be in place but extremely dirty. The front pane of glass is missing - I'll probably replace it with some plexi that I have on hand for now. It must have been gone for a while because the rear pane is filthy. The photos don't do it justice, you can barely see the playing field through the grime.

Does anyone know what this bracket is for off-hand? https://i.imgur.com/VIFRWrr.jpg It's not attached to anything. My first thought is that it was an anchor point for the power wire, but perhaps there was a spring attached here? I don't see it on any similar machines.

Welcome to Pachitalk! That is a bracket to hold a linkage rod that activates a ball stopping mechanism. It is activated when the jackpot hopper is low. The ball blocker is still intact on your machine. It is that odd metal flap is below the left hand lower green pocket. I have a couple similar Single Ball (or Single Shot) Conversion machines with this feature. At least one has it still intact. However I can't post pics with my crappy computer.

http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...all+conversion Here is a thread on one of mine. This is the lower end that attaches to the metal ball stopper. And here is a full back that shows all!

Interesting, thank you for that. I wonder if someone intentionally removed it from mine to try to make it play with an empty hopper. It looks cleanly removed and not broken or bent off. Based on yours I might try to fabricate that rod and crank.

That is my plan for my other one that is missing. I think I have 3 SBC machines, and this linkage is missing on 2 of them.
Looks like a commonly missing part. I expect that people who don't have enough balls to play, remove it in order to play. Then lose it!
Fortunately...it should be easy to duplicate!

Hi AKADriver-I am new to this site and have an early machine similar to yours(Sophia). I cannot get the balls to properly load into the launcher-they keep coming out and jam at the launcher. Would it be possible for you to post or send me a photo of inside the front door where the balls come from the tray and are deposited to the launcher. I think something is missing from mine. I have posted a couple of photos in a new thread but since I am a new user, there appears to be a delay.
    Thanks:
    Bill
