Default New Sankyo tear down, new mystery question

    Hello all,

I’m on my third machine and my second Sankyo. This time I’m noticing there’s no little bumper at the top where the launched balls hit to return them to the play area. Instead there is a plastic chute with a hole in it, and a little latch type thingie that moves but doesn’t appear to do anything. A ball that goes through the chute just flings around the play field and is returned to ball return same as if it didn’t get launched at all. Is this functioning as designed?

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work. Means you have to adjust how hard you shoot yourself, can't just flip away.

You put the rod below the lever between two of your fingers, flipping with your thumb. Rotate your hand around the rod clockwise to shoot farther (lever goes down farther), counterclockwise to shoot shorter (lever goes down less).

Amazing! Thank you so much! Any idea about that little plastic flap thing?

From the looks of it, there are pieces missing, but I don't know that for a fact. Notice the hole in the decorative plastic. I can envision a post going through that holding a bumper, with the white plastic flap holding a spring.

That is pure guesswork. I will look at some of my machines--I have a couple Sankyo machines--and see if they have the same set up as yours.

    Love the center feature.

I cannot figure out what those little side bars are on the center feature. There doesn't appear to be a way fora ball to roll into them from either side, and when a ball goes through the top, it goes straight down. What are those little wings on either side of the center feature?

Couldn't tell you. But moving parts are usually linkages for mechanical assemblies.

do the pieces that the side levers hang above move? if so, it looks like those pieces can close which would push the bottom of those levers inward which I'm guessing would alter the path of the ball that enters from the top. could also be that they're just decorative and their movement adds interest but it seems like they articulate with something inside the center feature.

They do move. They seem like they’d allow a ball to come in from the side, even though the odds of that happening are nearly zero.
