    Default Help with Pink Panther

First off hello as this first is my first post I will admit I have come here for several years looking for answers to many questions and have always found what I was looking for allowing me to repair and even rebuild many vintage pachinkos. Well now I have an issue I am not sure of and need help and have not seen a super direct answer so I am breaking my several year streak of silent lerking and asking.

I recently purchased a lot with several vintage machines and in the lot was a modern Pink Panther machine. Every thing seems to work (I can get it to roll the slot machine lcd by manually dropping balls in the front with the glass open even getting it to fever once). The problem is the ball shooter does nothing, no attemp and no noise as if it was even trying. I read many posts talking about the grounding ring and have tried shooting even with two hands touching it (insert crude joke) but nothing. After many more posts and maybe some luck reading between the lines I heard about a dongle. The pink panther has a printer type looking port but nothing my plugged into it. So I am thinking the fact that I am missing a dongle (second crude joke insert) may be my issue. If in fact I do need this dongle can I make one? I found one on eBay but $50 feels way to expensive considering I had seen some older post on here talking about $6-$9.

Thankyou in in advance for all the help in advance
    Josh

    Hi Josh, Welcome to posting!!

I believe this model should have a dongle to plug in, although I know some machines may have been modified / bypassed differently,

but hopefully one of our more technically minded members can say for sure on your model

I think there may have been some instructions on making a dongle around here, again hopefully a member can pop by with the details, if I can't locate it for you, or perhaps someone has a spare, or you could invest in a Daverob Dongle (CRED)

If your good with a soldering iron you can make a dongle for about £5.

Wow guys! Thanks big time!! The schematic is something I may be doing and trying to solder my own but I would like some more info on how and where to get a "Daverob dongle (CRED)" or any other that have already been made. Are all dongles created equal? I mean are they all good on all machines that need one or are there specific dongles for specific machines. Also besides getting the shooter to activate does the dongle open any other features? I thought I read some where that it lets you use the front "loan a ball" system to work. Are these the buttons above the gear shock logo?

Thanks again guys from someone very novice to these newer machines

    first off

    Welcome to Pachitalk

    second

sounds like ya need a dongle..

    now the hard question..

you like vintage machines.. have you played a modern machine before?? if you have and you know its something your going to like and keep get the daverob dongle... im not a huge fan of modern machines.. love vintage machines... but having the daverob dongle makes things way better.. the ball loan feature is the best.. having to reach around and steal balls so you can keep playing gets old quick... there worth the investment... i now keep one of Dave's dongles just in case someone local needs one..

Awesome! Where would I buy a Daves Dongle? Several times I have been directed this way and it definatley sounds like the way I would like to go but I am to much of a noob to figure out where to go to get it. Thank you all for the advice and I look forward to being able to help others as I grow in this hobby!
    thanks Josh

I normally just pop round his house if I'm in the area
Or you could try emailing him through his website. Me being the cautious type would try or with a standard £5 homemade dongle before getting the daverob deluxe dongle.

Thanks so much Drunkenclam, but I decided to man up and took the plunge into one of Daves dongles. I really liked the fact that I can expand it later and do a card swipe if I wanted and it would activate the ball loan as well.

Akimono is US based and sells the DaveRob dongle. I bought one from them a while back and it works great. You may want to compare prices. I believe when I looked that it was actually a little cheaper to purchase through Akimono than direct from Dave due to shipping costs, etc.

http://akimono.herokuapp.com/ The dongles are right there on the homepage. Well worth the money. I don't know how I played without one for as long as I did.

Just thought I'd add that Daverob is a longstanding member here and if you have any queries about the Dongle, compatibility, availability, etc

You could also just send him a PM here, or he is sure to see your posts when he logs in

Thank you spyder138 akimono was like a dollar or two cheaper but I figured for that dollar I would rather deal straight with the man himself and purchased directly from Dave on his site. The reason for my dessision was also encouraged by being able to talk directly with him via these forums and being able to pm him directly! (Just like hanabi had said) once again thank you all for the advice and big time fingers crossed this is what is going to "fix" my machine so I can get onto building a cabinet for it and play!

on the front does it say CR in front of the name somewhere or on a sticker it will say 1/315.5 CR and some Japanese characters look on the back of the machine does it have a port that looks like a parallel port from an older computer if so it may need the bypass dongle. Or if it has one the capacitor in it may have dried up causing it to not work anymore. Units that were hooked up to card readers in parlors would not work unless they received a signal from the reader with a stored value card.
