    Default Pinball dave smart cards.

So I bout the rev. 2 dongle with the smart card reader. I have went through the instructions a few times and seem to not be able to get o-5 to work. It will not let me add credit to the card or take credit. Is there something im missing? Do i need to hook up a button to be able to get credit onto the card? The way I read o-5 i should be able to hit the button on the front of the machine to add credit to the card. Thanks for the help.

on mine I would need to hold the button on the game (1 of the 2 on the front tray) down 5-10 seconds for the credits to be added.

Just some thoughts after looking at mine:
Did you unplug and re-do the cable and dongle? Is there anything showing on the game display by the credit buttons; blank, 3 dashes, ERR? Does your shooter handle operate with the dongle in place? Card placed into reader with chip side down?

I couldn't locate my original documentation for this card reader. This is the website if you need it to further help in trouble shooting. There is much more info on it as I recall.

Thanks for the info. On the disply it shows 3 --- dashes when I Have a card instilled no matter what operation. I have also tried to unplug and replug everything in same results. If i use o-1 i hit the credit button it will give me 25 balls but any other operations I get nothing.

    Hi Crs353,
I’m curious if you where you able to get your card reader to work? If not, please review the details on this page starting at the top. I don’t have my setup instructions but the “---“ means that the reader is hooked up and without a card in it. So it is communicating with whatever game you have. Outside of a compatibility issue you may just need to re-initialize your card(s).

If nothing else works, please don’t give up searching and asking around this site. There are many with more knowledge than I who will check in from time to time.

don't be afraid to stick the card all the way in. no need to be gentle

dumb question - you're putting the card right way in yes

I am very familiar with this device, and can help if you need ! Also Daverob must still be lurking around here somewhere

I'm still lurking around, though not having the time to check the forums so often. (The engine in my car died, so my spare time has been spent attempting to build up a replacement engine).

Peteybob is right, the three dashes mean that the dongle thinks that there is no smartcard in the reader.

The fact that the dongle operates in 'Freeplay' mode 'o-1' (where it doesn't check to see if there is a smartcard reader connected), and that you are able to use the buttons on the pachinko to change settings, proves that your pachinko machine is compatible and that it's card reader interface is working correctly. So the problem must be confined to the dongle/smartcard reader.

Try unplugging the reader from the dongle and see if the you can add credit and dispense balls in mode 'o-5'. (Always power off the machine when connecting or removing the dongle or reader).

If it works as expected, then reconnect the reader and check that the cards are being inserted the correct way. The gold chip on the cards needs to be facing down when the card is inserted (assuming the reader is the right way up!).

As soon as the dongle detects a card in the reader, the display should change from '---' to a display showing the credit balance on the card (or 'Err' if the card is uninitialised). Once the card is present, the dongle should work in the same way as it does with the smartcard reader disconnected.
