    Default New Pachi arrived.

Now normally I wouldn't both buying a pachi of this age and shipping it, Especially as there are already some in the UK.
But this one is slighlty different from the others.

    Behold its
    Spoiler

Going to need the standard tidying and cleaning and maybe a little repainting, But it doesn;t seem to be a fake

It's the real deal alright, shame about the chrome wear. Arby had the one I have stripped and rechromed, not a cheap process. Pictures don't do these frames justice!

Surely a chrome plating would give it more of a mirrored finish than gold

That's a really nice looking machine. Congrats on your acquisition.

I just got one this week myself. I've really been wanting one with Japanese numbering on the reels. For some reason this one has held its value so when an affordable one showed up I snagged it. It helps I have most of the Samurai Girls Alter figures.

Still finding time to sand off the old paint with 1200 grit wet and dry. The frame doesn't lend its self to a sanding block. Plus Mrs Clam has me redocorating the bedroom.
Its all stripped of parts. Just the rubbing down is taking forever. Wish I knew someone with a sand blaster.

I have noticed this sideways problem wit Pictures ... I have noticed if you turn the camera to take a vertical long shot ... they come out sideways ... if u take the shot in the normal camera position ... thats how u see the pictures ... Some how the software on here presents the picture always in the horizontal position ... So so come out side ways if u take a vertical shot
    ....

I never had a problem with uploading images before, if they viewed the correct way on the desktop, they used to upload fine. That was before I upgraded to Windows 10

Sandblasting may not work as good as it sounds. I was trying to remove the chrome from plastic headlight bezels from a 1978
camaro once. Chrome was damaged and peeling...I wanted to paint them flat black. In the areas where it was thin, the chrome came off easy in a blasting cabinet. It was an industrial glass bead cabinet at a clutch shop. I know chrome is hard, but this was plastic...I expected it to come right off! Boy was I surprised to see how tough that stuff was! I think the plastic was dipped, because it was thin on the leading edge, and thick on the trailing edge. The thin stuff came off pretty easily, but became more difficult as it got thicker. At the end, I was blasting to lift an edge, then gripping it with vise grips to peel it off. It took much longer than I expected, and I never got all the chrome off. I feathered the edges of what wouldn't budge and painted. This was a smoothe surface. The only damage to the plastic surface was erosion where I would stubbornly blast the same area to try to get chrome that wouldnt budge to erode away...but the plastic yields first. Gouges tn the plastic where I would dig with a screwdriver or a knife to lift an exge to peel.
It is worth a try, I wouldn't expect any damage as long as you are careful. If the chrome is thin consistently, it could work. However, don't expect it to be easy...chrome don't come off like rust and paint.
I bought a pressure blaster for my rusty wheels. 60 pounds of blasting media in a tank that gets pressurized to 90 psi. A valve at the bottom lets the media get pushed into tne air stream, also at 90 psi. Much more effective than a siphon feed gun...like the one in the blasting cabinet. The front wheels stripped to bare meta easily...they were painted. The rear wheels were chrome. Surprised me they were so rusty and cruddy. I never could get any chrome off. The best I could do was to give them a dul. Grey textured surface that paint would stick to. Chrome is tough to remove!

Thanks to cardwwi tip. All the small parts were soakes in thick bleach and the old chrome came right off. Now brought a 42L tray for the big parts. Now just got to get another 30L of bleach to fill it. I wonder if there is a limit to how mucb bleach you can buy in one go. We are going back to the Philippines later in the year. I wonder if I can get it recoated cheaper there.

I've got a yellow one without any gold chrome at all. While having the gold chrome would be nice; I'm pretty certain I don't have the patience/gumption to redo it to be chromed. I'll have to pay attention to see how yours turns out!

    Wow.
    Old thread.

    Update.
When it was stripped of the old chrome. I found some of the plastic was cracked and damaged. I now have got hold of all the parts and popped into the paint shop yesterday. Only to find they are closed for a month for refurbishment. So this is still an ongoing project. Just hope I remember how to put it back together.
