    Default Transformer question

I am not too familiar with skill slots but was wondering a little about transformers. I have a Ghost Shock by Sammy that kicks out once in a while. After it cools you can hit the transformer switch and get it going again. My question is : do I need to replace the 4 amp with a 5 amp or is there something wrong with the machine ?

Most of the transformers I have heard about (including the ones in my machines) are at least a 5 amp, I would replace it with at least a 5 amp.

Thanks Lddrizzt ! Also wondering, does it have to have that little switch on it? I think its called a thermal switch.

Not really a need for a thermal switch on it. Like Lddrizzt is saying, go with a 5 amp transformer and just to be safe, put it on a power strip. This will give you the one switch flip to kill power to not only the slot but to the transformer as well. If you plug it straight into the wall it will always be powered and always be hot and limit it's life expentency.

Just a quick question while we are on the subject of transformers. I know we touched on this topic before, but I was hoping to get a little more feedback. On the machines that I get that need transformers, I have been putting in 6 amp one like Arby had suggested in a different thread. Some have said that 5 amp ones are ok? Am I being overly cautious using the 6 amps or can I get away using just the 5 amp? Since I am reselling, I want to make sure that I am using a transformer that is safe for my buyers. There is a big difference in price, about $10- $15 per unit, is there a big difference in performance/durability/safeness?

5 amp should be fine. Many of the big vendors use that size.

From the draw ratings that David did a long time ago, under a full load during a BB, the unit never reached 5 amps output. So five is fine.

Personally, I like the Transformers that turn into the Dinobots the best, Grimlock Rules!

I have a machine that still has the original 100V Japanese power supply in it. I know I should put in a transformer. Where is the best place to pick one up?

    Thanks!

If its 100 volt already it doesn't need a transformer.

The 24 volt machines are the ones that need transformers.

OK, I thought the 100V machines needed to be converted to 120V to prevent premature wear. I understood that running 120V through the 100V transformer produced a voltage higher than the intended 24V, and that higher voltage could cause trouble.

no you don't need to do anything to the machine the rectifiers will do everything necessary to run the machine as for the premature wear thats a fallacy and doesn't exist the only thing you might want to do if your machine comes equipped with a 50 Hz and 60 Hz plug on the hopper and fluorescent ballast move the plug over to the 60hz side will help the ballast run better . other wise enjoy your machine into old age Ive seen Macy machines 100 volt over 20yrs old still running strong on their original power supplies .....If you need any more info just do a search on transformers and im sure you'll find many posts with more detail ,I'm getting tired of writing them ...goodluck .
