Default Bruce Lee 2004 Takao no sound :(

Well, I just bought my first Pachinko and everything is working pretty well, except the sound doesn't work. Not even a crackle from the speakers.

I have tried the volume switch in every position, turning on the unit with either or both rear buttons held for up to 30 seconds, and reseating all dongles (except the second/inner layers'). I see no evidence of cut traces or other shenanigans on the boards. I saw a post back from 2005 where someone else had sound issues, but no solution.

I did download the Hornet cabinet manual in Japanese, and know some basic Japanese and advanced soldering skills if needed for this fix.

Also, the DIN connection has a capacitor/diode/resistor combo clamped and soldered in. I'm guessing this is normal? I'm asking because I accidentally brushed my face on it and got a light electrocution. I've since covered it with tape.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the kind welcome! Peanut butter jelly time!

I've checked and reseated the connectors to the speaker, and just reseated the other connections to the boards behind the front boards as well. I also took out the sound card and opened the case, and gently pressed down on the ICs, paying attention to the ones that say Bruce Lee on them in katakana. No luck so far.

I know that this was the first machine made for this cabinet, so I'm wondering if there's something problematic and common that I'm unaware of. Maybe an IC that needs resoldering?

At least I bought this unit for a steal at $100 and picked it up an hour away. There's no evidence of tarnish or corrosion anywhere, this thing is in amazing shape. I only needed a little WD40 and Windex to make it run smoothly and make the buttons and lever unstuck.

On the plus side, I stained the sides of the basic wood cabinet with Nakahama ink (dark reddish with brown tones), with a light red on the top as well, and added oak support legs that I painted a gloss black. Looks killer! I also made a pair of sloped wooden boxes/trays with black sides. Looks like I'm catching the fever again since my last visit to Japan in 2008, haha! Now I'm just waiting for my new refurbished balls to arrive. It's not very easy to play with only 25 balls, lol.

WD40 can clog up in time and attract dirt, I use contact cleaner to free buttons and levers

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely do that when I undertake a more thorough breakdown of the parts!

Can you post a pics of the front and board where the speakers connect? Not sure if it's the same model, but I have a Bruce Lee machine also. Will not be able to get to it until next week. I'll try to take some pics of it so you can compare.

I feel stupid. As I was taking some photos, I immediately stopped to test the voltage coming from the board to the speakers. They were live. The speakers were blown! What a simple fix! I had a pair of Polks from an old pc that fit. I need to attach resistors eventually because they are half the ohms, but for now I just have the volume turned low.

Lesson learned, trace the problem backwards instead of running in circles

My balls arrived, but of course I played for about a half hour straight and entered several bonus stages before fixing the sound, and now that it's fixed it's been on a losing loop with the same boring sounds repeating :/

I will post a few pics and put up a video later in the week, since I can't do it easily on my phone.
    Thanks for everyone's help!

Nice! There is also another one with a yellow logo, which is the same model with slightly different odds. I can't seem to find the website where I discovered that. Untranslated manual is available at Dave's: Translated Pachinko Manuals
