Default 1975 Nishijin Model B restoration. New user.

    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

My Mother recently bought me a 1975 Model B Pachinko Machine.

My Grandfather had one that I remember playing as a kiddo, but he unfortunately did not bequeath me. If I recall correctly it had some Phoenixes on it. If anyone knows of such a machine, I would be super interested.

Still this machine brings back some old memories. It's in rough shape.

    Got some questions:

1.) Model B Machines had double Plexi-glass did they not? One plexi-glass sheet to retain the balls and another to prevent people from monkeying with the ball retention sheet?
    2.) I measured the inner plexi-glass as 16" wide x 16" tall x 1/16" thick can anyone confirm this?
3.) Is there a good way to clean the "cell" behind the pins without removing the pins at all?
4.) As I understand it, this machine uses a 10v @ 1.5amp power source. While I could probably rig this up, I recall my Grandfathers machine ran off a 9V battery. Will this work even though it is only 200mA?
5.) What is the positive and negative terminal?
6.) This machine has a glass fuse. Anyone know what the fuse is rated to? Does it even matter if you power it by battery (undervolting) so long as the fuse is intact?
7.) I plan on painting this machine. Any recommendations on paint or whether it is better to strip the paint first?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome

Are you looking for this machine? Phoenix Butterfly.jpg MVC-298F.jpg

    1. Pachinko machines take two pieces of glass for the playing field covers. The inside cover is a 1/8” plate glass (This is for sound insulation and to keep the balls on the playing field), and the outside cover is a 1/8” Plexiglas (This is to absorb shock and for protection). There are two grooves in the metal frame around the playing field to hold the glass in place. This is so people can’t use magnets to cheat at the game. The machine will work with just the inside glass installed.

    2. Nishijin Model B glass size is 15.9”X 16.0”= 15 29/32"X 16" = 404mmX407mm

    3. Simple green spray in a small cup and use a Q-Tip to clean the field in small areas it takes about a box of Q-tips to do.

    4. Lights will work off 9V battery

    5. The machines can work on AC or DC power here is a wiring schematics http://www.pachinkorestorations.com/3B2SPS.pdf

    6. 2 Amp

    7. Strip the paint first

Also for number 3, don't spray the cel directly. The liquid will run down the nail holes very quickly and permanently stain the cel.

I like your center feature with a mermaid; have never seen that one. That paint on the plastic would touch up nicely. Some people use paint made for plastic models.

The negative versus positive terminal only matters with LED bulbs. There are three terminals on the back of the model B. You want to use the top two. The other one is for the attendant light.

It looks like you have a pachinko ball jam in one of the pockets. (picture 6) Try to get all the balls out of it and start over.

    Have fun.

The little phoenix pockets are common on 1973 and 1974 Nishijins.

    Thanks all.

No, that is not the machine that I am looking for. No butterfly. The Phoenix pockets are exactly what I am looking for but the central Jackpot has like a Double Pheonix on it.

    Thanks for the glass info.

looks like ya got great info..
finding a machine just like your grandfathers will be nearly impossible.. there are lots of machine where small parts on the play field were changed around.. it was not until later that machines started to become standardized and themed..

    and of course

    I figured as much. *Sigh*

I have a problem with the mechanism that fires the balls up the shoot. It doesn't seem to have enough power to go all the way around. I have pulled the spring along the tensioner as far as the adjustments will go to no avail. Is there a standard method to fix this?

I was thinking of clipping the spring, reconnecting it to the tensioner bar and seeing if that will do it.

I will post a video later.

The machine is getting re-painted right now.

Sometimes a little oil here can help also I have found that bearing nut sometimes is to tight and binds up the bearings.

    Nut.jpg
Take off the spring and loosen the lock nut adjusts the bearing nut tell the flipper moves freely then tighten the lock nut reinstall spring.

Always make sure your mechanicals are in order before modifying parts.

    Nice machine.

Hey all, sorry for the Hiatus... I often work way way way way out in the middle of nowheresville here in B.C.

    Anyway, I have a video:

    Pachinko Machine Mechanism - YouTube

It seems to be working just fine, but again it doesn't seem to have enough spring force. Like I said I pulled the tensioner as far as it could go to no effect. The machine is getting the paint restored right now.

It doesn't sound correct to me. Is the hammer hitting the track where the pachinko ball is resting?

If not, have you tried taking the mechanism off the machine and oiling it? That sometimes makes a big difference.
I have seen the mechanism "gummed" up and it worked just fine with a little oil and cleaning.

    This is from pachinkoplanet.com videos...

the striker should not bounce like that.. when the hammer stops it should be all the way against the bumper stop... something is out of wack

It looks like it is hitting a piece of plastic. It's like the valet flag piece or something. Does anyone have a picture of that area of the whole thing assembled correctly?

Yeah my mechanism hits that plastic arm. I have cleaned out all the balls. I might have to take that apart to see if there is some sort of stiction happening that is causing that arm to stay back a bit.
