    Default burnt out chip

Hi i have a 1980's merry go round pachinko machine. The previous put the wrong power suppply and burnt out a chip. I have managed to get it to power up for the lights and ball release. But the play area in the middle wont work due to the burnt out chip. The circuit board is DK-4008 and chip is in postion IC11 4, due to being burnt there no numbers left on the chip. Does any one know chip number thanks

Sorry to be no help. Your best bet is to post a few pictures of your machine and the circuit board, etc. The information you posted is a great start.

Maybe someone else has the same machine and circuit board and can look and see. Even though the front is the same; sometimes the back changes.

Does it look like this on? I know there are at least 3 of these in the UK

try posting an image of the front of the machine and a complete one of the circuit board and a close up of the blown part.

I don't have mine anymore as sold it last month, but I know someone else who has one. If you can show which chip, I'll ask them.

Ok. I've forwarded the pictures on. Might be worth sending JohnS a private message as he brought mine from me.

The chip is made by Sharp and its has "IR3M03A", "9622" and "d" written on it. Its a DC/DC convertor
http://www.datasheet-pdf.com/datashe....php?id=617976 Although discontiuned, and Sharp list MC34063P1 as a replacement.

Farrnell sell this one MC34063AP1G - ON SEMICONDUCTOR - IC, DC/DC CONTROLLER, 34063, DIP8 | Farnell UK Might be worth a try. but check the datasheets first

If the top has blown off the chip, then there's probably something else wrong on the circuit board. When components in switch mode power supply circuits fail in this way, it's usually caused by another component that's failed. If not then it's highly likely that the failure of the chip will have taken out some other components when it went. When fault finding the circuit, you often can't tell which part failed first and caused the others to blow.

If TR3 is the external switching transistor for this chip, then it's a safe bet that you'll find that it's shorted out.

You might get lucky with just replacing the chip, but if you are ordering one, then get a couple of them (just in case) and try to order replacements for any diodes, transistors and small electrolytic capacitors that you can identify in the circuit at the same time.
