I had a snipe scheduled for that Gamera at $280. The price was already well over that at the 7 second mark, so my bid never got placed. But I just did a deal with pachisloshop.com today to pick up one that just arrived in their latest container for $350 delivered. So it works out to just about the same as my $280 bid plus shipping.

Even at that, I think I overpaid for it a little. But it was worth it to have one now instead of this fall when they'll probably be around $200 on ebay. I've been lusting for this machine since it first hit the parlors in Japan.

This is my first transaction with pachisloshop.com. So far they seem to be great to deal with. Very fast (and very reasonable) replies to my emails. They say they'll have the machine ready to ship by the end of the week. I'll let you know how it plays around the end of next week.

You'll like them, Ted's good people. I can't wait to hear what you think of that slot.

Gamera High Vision arrived today from pachisloshop.com. It got some pretty rough handling by FedEx. The reel cage was bent. Had to take it entirely apart - reels out, circuit boards off, etc, to get to the bare metal frame. Then it was like a 3-d puzzle trying to get all the bends out of it. Finally got it back together and the reels spinning freely.

The plastic coin shoot was also broken. Super glued it.

Everything is now working. Seems like an absolutely awesome machine. So far only played for a few minutes to make sure I had it all fixed. I'll be playing more tonight. Only downside - with that big video screen they have a reasonably loud fan to cool it. So it's not a machine you'd want on all the time in your living room.

My Austin Powers also arrived today. Got it from Big Bear. Great machine, great price, great dealer.

Just came across a strange problem on my Gamera High Grade Vision. After playing for about 15 minutes the sound would begin to fade out. If I fiddled with the volume controls the sound would come back on, and then fade out again after another 15 minutes.

At first I feared that it was a bad sound board. But, it looks like it was caused by the volume controls that were (I assume) installed by pachisloshop.com.

They looked like pretty cheap pots. I replaced them with Parts Express L-Pads and everything seems to work fine. My best guess are that:

    1. They were just cheap pots and couldn't take the power put out by the amp.
    2. They presented a load to the amp that it didn't like so the amp itself would start to misbehave after a short time.
    3. There were cold solder connections to the pots. I did find that the wires were just tack-soldered onto the pot's terminals. That's a no no. You should never count on the solder to make the mechanical connection. You need to make a firm mechanical connection BEFORE you solder.

I vote for #1. But, whatever the cause, the L-pads seem to have fixed it, and they also give me much better control over the volume.

I dunno, you'll have to ask Arby.

Sheesh Gary, did ya have to pay extra for the honor of rebuilding that machine or was it already figured in???
I know sending it back compared to self repair is probably a major hassle, but Id be concerned about down the road.
    Are ya covered?

You know I have been dieing to see the video on this slot. I am a huge Gamera fan. I have a mini gamera shrine at home.... Is it the same as the red and blue but in the bigger screen or does this have a whole new animation?

I haven't played either of the old Gameras, so I can't tell you for sure, but I assume that it's all new animation. There's no way that they would have put this much detail into the original animations for the smaller screens.

If you want to see a video of it in action, check out this link:

I like it! But that big video seems like it would mess with eye-shooting.

Not that I'm any good at that anyway.

If they're going to make the video that large, why not just make the reels into the video as well? That just looks a little odd with the video completely surrounding the reels.

That would be cool to have the reels as part of the video.
Maybe even have it sorta move around the screen, huh!?
