got it yesterday... two days ahead of planned delivery date... further review to come... But to be brief - machine was cleaner than any machine I've ever seen. Packing was excellent. Volume knobs were mounted very nicely (tho they are unnecessary - machine has software volume control!) Combo of this particular Rakuten shop and FJ is highly recommended. Esp coming in at this price ($406 total).

How well was the back and corners protected. A pic of the pachi in the box is always useful

Hmmm... sorry... didn't take pics during unboxing. But the box itself was made for pachinkos. It had cardboard corners that were part of the box - they folded in and down from the top and bottom flaps to hold the corners. The entire pachi was wrapped in bubble wrap before being slid into the "slot" that those made. The glass had a ton of newspaper pressed up against it.
Overall, fine for domestic, I'd say. So I'm glad I opted for the extra 2000yen double boxing charge. Basically the entire pachinko box was wrapped in large bubble wrap and then in another layer of flexible cardboard. It had a good amount of "give" in the outer packaging, but wasn't a sloppy mess.

Would it have survived a big drop? probably not... but normal mishandling? Sure. I'd have no problem ordering from them again.

Got the Ayu cell. The cell was wrapped in a couple lays of light bubble wrap. Top and bottom was just some light foam padding (white). The front of the cell had two pieces of very soft foam and one for the back (pink). FJ wrapped the sellers box in heavier bubble wrap and fit it in their box. The cell was in very good condition. The play field looked good with only some light scuffs on the cover over the video screen. This thing has a lot of moving parts and light up like Christmas when it POSTs. The cell works very well with the Macross frame. I also shipped a Fever Macross booklet (turned out to be a very nice hard bound book) with the cell.

Just adding to the thread to help illustrate how FromJapan packages pachinko machines for shipment. I had ordered the CR Sakura Taisen 2 MV machine and according to the Fedex tracking information its dimensions were 36x17x24 in. and weighed 90.4 lbs / 41 kgs. Shipping charge was 15,869 Yen to the United States (Maryland) and I also paid the 2000 yen extra for the secure packaging option. The package was shipped from FromJapan's office on Thur. 2/20 and it arrived for delivery to my house on Mon. 2/24. The package had a large outer bubble wrapping and an inner layer of smaller bubble wrapping before you get to the actual pachinko box. The inside was packaged fairly tightly. Overall I was very impressed on how tight and secure the entire package was. Here's some pictures during my unwrapping:

I did have one slight nit-pick incident. I wanted to increase my deposit, But you have to use the same credit/debit card as what you used for the original deposit. So I had to refund my deposit to my credit card so I could up my deposit to x3 the amount using my debit card. I didn't want to use my credit card for my purchase.

That's weird. I've made deposits from two different debit cards w/o having to release previous deposit first. Maybe you cannot mix debit and credit?

Maybe, I guess its because after 30 days they refund your deposit if its not used.

My ToHeart2 pachislo left Japan today loaded with 500 tokens. So here are the sizes and prices for those who want to budget for themselves. Again I paid extra to have it double boxed adding to the packaging cost and increasing the box size thus increasing shipping costs.

Auction cost of the pachislo and tokens (not including domestic shipping or other charges)
    ¥12600

Total cost with all shipping to the UK
¥45318 or approx £265 (I expect to have to add import duty to this)

    Package size

    44KG
    91 x 58 x 54 cm

Should be with me by Tuesday

So how does one arrange for the double-boxing? Send a note? Something to check-off? My fever macross cel is waiting for shipping (but there are other goodies I am bidding on).

When you select your shipping method, there is a box you can tick for extra secure/double boxed shipping. It costs an extra ¥2000 for that service. But for an expensive machine, it's worth it.

You might be lucky. I've always for mine a day before. As FedEx probably will not deliver on weekends. You might get it Friday, or wait till the Monday. It's interesting watching all the stop overs it does on the way here.

My package was delivered two days earlier, but it was also at a location just 50 miles away two days earlier. You might get lucky.
