ARUZE XXXX, 2000 model year achine, center reel wont spin

I just bought a ARUZE (2000 model) XXXX Z machine, it worked fine for one day, and now the center reel wont start to spin on its own, if you spin it by hand it will eventually work untill the next round. I have checked the plugs, interface PCB, and wires (with a FLUKE DVOM) all the way to the main computer, all are good. I have switched the motor and it is good. I have tried moving the center plug to another position and the problem is from the center wheel wire harness to whatever reel is connected to it, so it is not the motor, interface PCB, or the wiring harness up to the main computer. I have also checked all the wiring from the power supply, again all good. The led lights on the main board all light when the reels are spinning, but the led for the center reel is off when the reel is not spinning and the other two reel leds are lit. The led lights for the stop buttons indicate the buttons are working ok.

I have run out of ideas, other than the main board has failed and my machine is toast.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked and cleaned every connector between the motor and the main PCB and no change. I suspect the main PCB has a stepper motor driver failure but I cant get to the board to check it as there is a metal lock securing the board and I dont have a key to open it. I am trying to figure out the best way to open or remove the lock.

its a palour security lock, i've used a pair of pliers to bend it back and unlock it.

I had a machine with problems, and removing the main board and putting it back in fixed my problem.

I just found out how to correctly drill out the lock and will do it today. After I get to the mother board I plan to check the motor drivers (I think I have located them) to see if that is the problem.

Wish me luck as this will be a first...hope it works.

Hi All,

Well I got the lock open and inspected the board, nothing found visually . I checked the stepper motor drivers using a Fluke DVOM and they seem good based on voltage out when reels are in spin mode.

Now I am really lost, any other ideas? I would have thought it was the drivers, but it is not, based on the voltage measurements taken during operation.

Since I took measurements on the drivers (J245) while in operation and they are working as expected, it could be a failed Transistor Array that controls the stepping motor phases, but I dont know how best to check them, or which one it is, as there are three of them. The symptom acts like a phase problem, as the motor shakes, but won't start to spin on its own. I have ordered parts to replace them (HITACHI 4AK18) but it will be difficult to not damage the board, so this is a last resort operation as it could destroy the board if a trace gets damaged removing the old part.

hi, i have a new pulsar big chance machine, and my problem with the reels is when i pull the lever, reel 1 is fine, but reels 2 and 3 sometimes the motors vibrate, they pause and actually start to reverse for a split second then they proceed to catch up normally. and when the reels stop periodically the icons are off center, thought the reels were loose, but were tight seems to be happening inside the step motors. if i could find the whole motors and reel cages would be great. or maybe someone has another suggestion. thanks john

First thing that comes to mind is that maybe the reel sensors are dirty or the connections are loose.

There is a tap on the reel sprocket that passes through a sensor, mounted on the reel assembly, as the reel is spinning. This is what tells the machine where the reel is, as it is spinning. If the sensor is dirty and can't see the tab, the reel will pause, stop briefly, shake, etc., because the machine doesn't know where it's at.

You need to use caution cleaning sensors. Dampen a Q-tip with some window cleaner and gently clean the sensor. Clean the area of the sensor where the tab passes through it.

Even if the connections appear to be okay, I would still unplug them and plug them back in. Sometimes "resetting" connections is all it takes to solve a problem.

Here is picture of a Reel Sensor, maybe not exactly like yours, but will give you an idea of what to look for.
