I just had a chance to take the face apart to see if it would be possible to fix the LEDs in the gumball lights. They don't make them easy to get into, that's for sure!

Unfortunately, as I suspected, the LED itself is housed in its own little module within the gumball assembly. It's extremely tiny surface mount, and appears to be encased in plastic, so not easily accessible for removal/replacement. It'd have been nice to have the flashy lights, but the risk is too large.

And as is always the case after I take something apart, I'm left with two "extra" screws... Hopefully they're not important
