Default Nishijin "Football Theme"...paint job time!

Hey guys...woke up this morning, when on craigslist and look what I found. P1030540.jpgNot a bad price either, so I called the guy and picked it up. After I got it home I saw two problemsP1030539.JPGP1030541.JPG. I sent the first picture to RIVAL and he was impressed too...a string to engage the ball lever in the front (don't know what the real name is). I'm just glad I saw it before I tired to open the front door...I would of ripped off the front!

But the second problem was the rust on the center panel. No matter how much sanding I did, it just wasn't going to get any better, so I decided to paint it. First I primed it and then painted it red to match the other red on the machine. P1030546.JPGP1030551.JPG. I'll get it together tomorrow and see how it looks. I know...I shouldn't paint the chrome but I didn't want to spend extra money on a new frame or chrome job.

Then I bought some cool acrylic pens. If you find these, my suggestion is buy the "fine" tip. I bought the medium and ended up having to cut each tip to make it a little finer. Here's some before and after: P1030543.JPGP1030545.JPG

Tomorrow I hope to get things back together again. It's a really cool machine because if the ball lands in the center "football jackpot" it has three options...goes center and it opens all the tulips, goes right and opens right tulip and left the same.

Best part about today...the machine had a nice piece of glass and the back of the machine (except for the lever that RIVAL is going to send me) is very complete. I worked out out the light bulbs and everything works very well!

    More pics to come!

BTW...does anyone know the year or story to this machine?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Looking good! Love the football theme. Might need to keep an eye out for one of these. Could be a fun one to customize.

1975. Sports theme ones are always popular, especially football and poker.

Football & Poker, two of my favorite pastimes. Add that to Pachinko and Woohoo!!!

    Hey Rival..thanks...for everything!
Rival must of bought out the last vintage pachinko parlor in Japan because he's got the parts!

Well, I have to say that the machine looks pretty good. I would be happy to get a few extra bucks for this machine and if I replace that playing field, I would want a few hundred bucks. So I'm going to leave it like it is and the new owner will have to look at the waterstains as clouds during the NFL game in 1975!

But the red paint on the lower panel turned out pretty dang good I thought! Here's some pics!

I've been playing with cleaners and my favorite has been Brasso...use it on the metal and plastic. It hasn't done me wrong yet. If it gets hazy in the cracks then I get the windex out and clean it out. When I'm finished with the plastic, I spray it with ArmorAll.

But I take that brasso, fill up the ash tray half full, put my Q-tips in the bottom ball return and go to town!

My only fear is that the paint might not stick to the chromed areas. Hopefully, your sanding put enough 'bite' into the metal to give the paint something to hold on to.

Good looking machine. Nice job on the retouch. Looks like fun. Enjoy!

I have never used Brasso on any plastic pieces. I assumed it would be too harsh on them. Never heard of anyone using Armor All on these machines either. I always tell my clients to stay away from it on their cars though as it tends, over time, to dry out what it is used on and causes more harm than good. Not sure if it would have any adverse effects on a pachinko machine. Just something to think about.

I've used that chrome cleaner for plastic parts and it seems like it's the same stuff. No problems yet...keep your fingers crossed.

I sanded that metal down till my hands hurt then hit it with some primer. That reds not going anywhere! And it's enamel, not latex...should be good!

Thanks D! It's the only fix I could thing off (that was cheap)...and I figure if I could pull the color from the tray, it would work. I've gone down and opened everything a few times to make sure nothing sticks and it's looking really good. The enamel does a great job! Overall I'm just fixing these machines up and selling them to friends for a little more. You guys that truly restore your machines are worth every penny! I still not looking forward to replacing my first playing field!

Great read. I've got a machine like this in my garage that hasn't worked in over a decade. Any ideas about where I should start/who I should see to repair it?
