Exclamation The vintage guy bought and early modern

    Well,

My dad took a quick trip to vegas and ended up bringing a machine back with him. It was an early modern as it was the only thing that seemed reasonably priced there. Ended up paying $65 for it, is that a good deal?

Also can someone tell me some more info about the machine?

I also think that the ball loader for the shooter is missing some kind of roller as it doesn't load balls like it should. I have a picture below. If I'm correct shouldn't there be a roller or something on the plastic rod (red arrow pointing to rod)?

Oh and don't be afraid about the formica. I have the pieces that fell off so I can glue them back on.

Did I also mention that I think the electronics fully works as well.

    Welcome to the dark side!!!

A few things for your new machine : first, that was excellent buying!

second : your machine is desirable and may well be this : Sun Scarlet actual machine

Does it say 'Scarlet' on the jackpot door at bottom? If so, this is it.

A deji-pachi from the mid to late 80's... nice.
There is always another machine around the corner...

Yes it does say Scarlet. Sorry about the glare on the glass. I was too lazy to remove both panes.

Only issue is there is a chip in the playfield right above the spinner in the upper left. But I'm thinking I could pull the pins in that area paint the spot and then put a small piece of mylar over it. Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Oh good.

That one comes up on Yahoo Japan every now and then and I always find the playfield very interesting.

I'm no help on the laminate though I'm sorry - never done that kind of repair.

    No worries.

Do you know about the ball loader? Do you think there is a roller missing or is the plastic post just worn down a lot?

    Unfortunately, no.

My one older Kyoraku of this type in currently in storage some miles from my place - I can get to it in awhile to compare, but not right now.

WOW! that is one cool early modern! I like how it is mostly mechanical...but electronically triggered. At least that is what it looks like to me. I've sen a few that are like Model C's with electronics...but yours is the 1st one I've seen like a Model B. The Model C ones looked like the ball paths were the same with electronics added. The Model B one, that you have, has the jackpot assembly off center to make room for the electronics. I can't wait to see the video! I have an early modern, but it is newer and all electrical on the back, Thunder Dragon 003.jpgso I don't think anything on mine will help. What part is that? The up close is great...but another just back enough to see what part of machine. I'll go look at mine to see if is the same.

I was kind of surprised you let it go...but you've piled on quite a bit of machines since! It couldn't have gone to a better home! And probably quite rare "down under".

    Ask and ye shall receive.

    003g.jpg

I think I fixed the problem temporarily by wrapping the post about 4x around with blue tape. Though I think I need to add even more to it. I plan on permanently fixing it by sliding some vinyl tubing over it maybe.

Also it seems the the shooter spring seems to be quite soft even when set on the highest setting. It doesn't get the balls past the middle really. Plus I was also having issues with the shooter knob not making continuity with the motor so I tore that apart and plan to fix it.

I also tore the back off because I noticed the start pocket on the right side (looking from front) of the machine wouldn't start the reels in the center. Turns out the micro switch that did that is missing. Which also made it so balls can go everywhere. I attached a pic of the switch if anyone has one can you let me know.

Also I have yet to figure it out but it should play music when you make it in the start pocket but it only does that in like the first 5 min. the machine was plugged in after that it doesn't play the music. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Bad connection somewhere maybe?

Oh and I was having issues with the chrome frame not latching so I basically took the whole machine apart. Turns out someone took it out and didn't put one lever in the right position. All I needed to do was take out the chrome frame not everything else.

It wasn't a decision made lightly,
but it was meant to be, and I couldn't be happier with the results
(besides,I know there are more lurking around here locally, since Republic Industries sold them right down the freeway from where I live)
