Do you have pics, or is there a post out there already with pics of these? Are these for vintage or modern machines?

Although I've never applied one on a vintage machine, I don't see why they couldn't be installed on one. It all depends if you have a good spot to install the sensors. As requested, I will post photos. If you do a search on here you can find some of the projects others and myself have done using them. They can be installed on pachislo also.

    Thanks for your interest,

I have bought a lot of 5, just before Musky bought them out. They were $11 each after shipping when 5 were bought, so I think $10 each is VERY reasonable! I am very happy with the pachicounters for what they are...a box of parts for assembly. They work very well when installed once you find a place for the sensors! The "shot" ball sensor is easiest, the "win" sensor is a little trickier. I have been playing with them on a modern, and an early modern, because it seems like a better match than for a vintage. I have had problems finding a good place for placement of "win" sensor on both, but I am a vintage pachinko guy...and the newer machines confuse me anyhow. Musky has used them on moderns, and you can see them on the links above. I haven't checked the links yet...buy have contributed to them, and added Musky's threads to my experiments. As far as vintage machines, seems like it would be easier,(for me, at least) because it is easier to find a place for the win sensor. On vintages, it is easy to find a place to detect 1 ball for a win. Place the sensor there and switch the DIP switch to make 1 ball equal 15 on the counter. It is mentioned in one of the pachicounter threads...but I haven't tried yet, too many important "work" related tasks in my life to play with my toys getting in the way! All in all...I find the Gaku Pachicounters a very nice addition to any pachinko, and am glad I didn't wait too long to get mine! I was curious as to what Musky was going to charge...and think the price is VERY REASONABLE! I can't remember the exact price, but they were for sale at about $30 each from Gaku, so when I bought 5 for $55 after shipping...I felt that I did good. At $10 each, you get the "bulk" price for a single one! If you want it to jump out of the box and it installs itself...not for you! If you can do reasonably easy wire connections...and understand how your machine works...these are great! Get one while you can! I am sure Musky will help answer technical questions, and I will contribute where I can! I am very happy with mine, and I am sure you will be too! I understand they can be used to count incoming & outgoing tokens on pachislos as well, that is why Gaku called them "pachicounters", so as not to limit the name to one type of machine or the other. I haven't even tried that yet (the work thing again!). If you think you want one...GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN!

Here are a few pictures of the counters and how they are used. First one shows what you get for your money. Also, a suggested spacer/screw arrangement. Then finally, a front panel mount for a Popeye I'm working on. I'm including about 3 feet of sensor cable length so you'll have plenty of options

Ok, just to clarify, only the parts kits are for sale. The custom panel I got from Gaku when I got the Popeye. I'm just showing that you can mount them on a plastic panel or a piece of tinted plexiglass for example. I DO NOT HAVE CUSTOM PANELS FOR SALE!! But if you add up the costs of the hardware in the the kits, you are getting your moneys worth.

Here is a vintage single shot pachi with a gaku counter. I did not have to drill any holes and I used velcro squares to attach the sensors.

I'm interested in installing these on two of my vintage if Musky has any left. One think I noticed, your ball shot indicator is located next to the launcher. How does the counter take into effect undershot balls. Manual plungers can undershoot balls so that the ball does not make it to the playfield. Is this an error you just need to account for?

I take it the sensors are only able to detect single balls passing in front of them, so putting them in the playfield exit chute to count "lost" balls is less accurate that the occasional undershot ball that might occur.

    Your insight is greatly appreciated.

I have one of these installed on my PowerFlash. Yes, an undershot ball can effect accuracy but it is still a wonderful device and makes the machine even more fun in my opinion.

I get it. If you are using it simply as a "ball counter" then the undershot balls would be a problem.

However, I kind of like the fact that there is a "penalty" for an undershot ball.

You are deducted a point for undershooting, but you don't lose the ball.

I'm hoping Musky has two left. I'd really like to put a couple of these on my Sankyo and Nishijin.

Don't really know much about these or what the designer was trying to do, but the simple cure would be to count the drain instead of the shooter. If it hits the drain, it counts as a shot. If it hits the jackpot, it counts as a jackpot and a shot.

Gaku originally designed the counters for use on a product he called Gaku Pachinko Game Machine, a fully cyclic modern pachinko in a custom cabinet. He wasn't worried about true or accurate counts, his game system could be set up to count 1, 5, 10, or 15 balls won if you hit a jackpot. The counters can also be install on pachislo machines as well so you could get a sense on how many tokens you were ahead or behind. Myself along with others have come up with cleaver ways of using the counters so that they give you a more accurate count and how you are doing. The under shot ball does not occur that often in the modern pachinko but since you shot one and didn't score with it wouldn't be the same as a miss? IMHO it's a penalty regardless if you get your ball back. I think the gadget is pretty neat and make playing my pachinkos more enjoyable, no more fever round interrupts because I have to refill a payout hopper. Then again, I may be a tad bias!
