Default 50 htz or 60 htz for the switch on the main power unit?

On my power unit there is a switch for 50 htz and 60 hts, I know the US is 120/60 but does the convertor that is installed require it to be set at 50 htz? It was originally on 50 htz but I had changed it to 60 htz.
