Aruze M-5 coin acceptor problem
Greetings.
A friend of mine has an Aruze pachi machine with an M-5 coin acceptor (pictured below). His machine was working fine for a while, but then started showing a CJ error, with the video display pointing to the coin acceptance area.
I took his coin mech out and discovered that inserted coins are supposed to press against a plastic piece which then momentarily trips an optic to let the machine know that the coin has gone by. There is a spring on the plastic piece that is supposed to keep the optic unblocked normally. The spring has a lot of rust on it and has broken, and now gravity is keeping the plastic piece in such a position that the optic is broken all of the time, causing the CJ error.
I was able to hold the plastic piece out of the way and then did a full clear to clear the error (turning the door key the other way and momentarily breaking that reset optic on the door didn't seem to do anything -- should it, or does a CJ error require a full clear normally?). The machine is then waiting for a coin to be inserted, but of course as soon as the first coin goes by the optic gets stuck broken again (due to the broken spring), and the CJ error returns.
Are these M-5 coin acceptors easy to come by? I don't have a lot of time to mess around with the machine, and he's not very mechanically inclined -- I think it'd be easier to just buy a replacement coin mech, throw it in there, and be done with it. Suggestions, anyone? Thanks in advance.
