    Default Quarters vs Tokens

    Hey folks,

I noticed on E-Bay that someone was sellling information on how to change a Pachislo machine to use quarters rather than tokens. Not having a Pachislo machine (yet) nor any experience with one, at first glance I thought this seemed like a good idea so you would not have to purchase tokens. I checked the cost of tokens, and, unless I missed something, it would appear that tokens are actually a lot cheaper to buy than it is to use legal tender quarters. If I am correct about this, then why would anyone want to convert a machine to use quarters? Am I missing something here?

    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

500 quarters would be 125.00 tied up in one machine, 1,000 tokens is what most of us use. that 250.00 or the cost of another machine.

you can get tokens cheap on ebay

plus then your machine becomes illeagl in a lot of states.

I agree. It is pointless to change them to quarters! Some people like to use them as a Piggy Bank, but that is silly to me as well...use a Piggy Bank for a Piggy Bank and use a Pachislo as a Pachislo...Seems simple to me!

An empty 5 gallon glass jar, now that's a piggy bank. If it plugs in and lights up and plays music while you press buttons... Well shove cheaper tokens into it so you can buy another one that plugs in and lights up and plays music while you press buttons. They'll never be lonely that way!

    Hey folks,

Well, it seems guess you guys confirm my understanding on this. With this in mind, I am wondering how someone can sell information to convert a machine to a method of play that just does not make sense?

    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

Thumbs down Re: Quarters vs Tokens

I think some people NEED to impress others with their 'status'... in their own minds, this makes them "special". Now they have a perfectly illegal machine in their own homes and can show off for their friends. (Ohhh, he's got a SLOT MACHINE in HIS house...) Wow! ain't that great?

Photos8484 i dont think many people do the mod to try to impress people by having a slot machine, i dont know many people who would be impressed just because their machine accepts quarters but maybe im wrong.

They change them to quarters because that is what they are used to seeing in Vegas. Suddenly you can be your own casino owner, right in your house. Everyone wants to do it at first. Then you realize that there is no great mystery about it and you can use that money for other stuff, and you have about 50 tokens that came with it anyway just sitting there....

A friend of mine actually had a legit reason to change it to quarters. He was tired of everyone coming over and just hanging out, drinking his beer, etc... So, he used this method to recoup some of the lost money they drank... Kinda funny I thought.

Sounds like he needed it to take in quarters and spit out tokens.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

Why didnt he just keep the tokens in the machine and sell the beer? It's legal!

Let's face it, before any of us knew a darn thing about pachislo's, but we decided to go ahead and buy one of these Japanese things, we wanted to convert it to quarters, get it to auto-stop and put an arm on it. We naturally want to Americanize the machines. We bought our first one because A. Real slots were illegal in your particular state or B. It was a cheap slot machine.

Now since we received them and the idea of slipping in a token wasn't so bad and stopping the reels we noticed was actually a fun way to play and we then suffer our first pachislo BFO (blinding flash of the obvious), "these babies are better than American slots, more fun to play and much cheaper too", we've been hooked. Suddenly, Americanizing it no longer makes a great deal of sense.

I guess he thought that would be rude. Yeah, his friends are rude for never offering to replenish what they drink, but that is the basic human nature for you. Anyway, he likes the idea of the machine and his friends like playing, so everyone is happy.

I have 8 machines and if I dedicated 1000 quarters for each (which is low to me because I use 1500 tokens per machine), I would have $2000 tied up for nothing? As apposed to about $500 in tokens!

It's a tale of the tape...just do the math (use a calculator if need be)!

I bought tokens that were EXACT quarter size from Fannini Slots last year. They also sell them direct for $.10 each: http://www.fanninislots.com/tokens.html
I've set up my game room to accept these tokens in ALL my toys: Pinball, Foosball, MAME machines and Pachislos. (I had to remove the slug magnets from the coin doors on the MAME machines.)

I can't imagine changing my machine. It is legal here, but I still wouldn't do it. I really like them the way they are.

    Food for thought...

It is a machine that accepts money and pays money that is illegal. (Slot machine)

How about a machine that takes quarters and pays tokens, or candy quarters...

Have the paid quarters fall into the overflow bin, and the tokens/candy still come from the hopper. (Candy is a long shot, but I had to throw it in.) Now it is no more illegal than a gum-ball machine or a skill-claw!
