Default Napalm Hanemono Restoration Project (Parts Molding)

    Hey Pachee's!

Project NHR is underway! Mold set, bases casted and the clear cast just poured.

Few Hiccups but nothing too bad.

To try and keep it short I am restoring this machine...

Some of the center features plastic was beginning to become brittle

and/or cracked so I decided to try and cast a mold of the original.

I used a kit sold at my local Hobby Lobby by Alumilite, the "mini" kit.

It comes with the majority of what you need, the rest is plastic cups, popsicle

    sticks, cardboard and/or stiroboard.

The silicone mold went really well, just takes 18 hrs to fully cure.

When using the "kits" plastic resin, you heat the mold at 140* for

15-20 mins. Within 90 seconds with a heated mold the 1st pouring

resulted in the resin curing mid-pour and not filling up the remainder

of the sides. You can actually see a cloud racing through it as it

changes from amber brown to gray!

Within 8 minutes a toasty hot cast is ready to be gently popped out!

There was that one chunk that sadly got ripped out with the first casting

that ended up solidifying before the sides could be fillled.

I'm going to be doing more peices but I am waiting now for the Clear cast to cure.

(clear cast takes 24 hours! kits 8 mins :8O: )

    Post more soon!

    Thanks for readin'!

That is pretty cool! Can you post a picture of the box so I can look for it? That is if you didn't use the box to make the mold!

I did actually... Oops! Alumilite has a few different kits.

I used the mini kit 'mold and cast your own parts' comes

With a little tub of silicone and quite a bit of casting resin.

For larger projects get the big tub 'quick set'

Hmmm, it seems I can't find the mini starter kit anywhere.

Here is the clear casting resin I am using. Same company.

    The kit came with :

1 Small tub of RTV Silicone.

1 Small solid white "Activator" bottle for the Silicone.

1/4lb Molding rubber (Blue Clay) for securing the base of your containment box.

1 Small clear bottle with clear fluid; The "A" part or the resin (same size as the RTV's activator bottle).

1 Small clear bottle with bownish fluid; The "B" part of the resin (these three bottles are the same size).

    3 Pop-sicle sticks for stirring.

    3 Measured mixing cups.

AhHA! Heres a picture or the starter kit I used but mine had a different style box...

Looks like they have them for sale! I paid 31.00 w/tax so its the right price. How do you order though...
