Default Vintage NISHIJIN Circuit Racer with modern electronics overlaid

This was an unusual project. After purchasing a NISHIJIN “Circuit Racer” and discovering that the electromechanical drum motor was broken. The CLICK PLC was overlaid to replace the original circuitry.

In the pictures: bulb 3 is burnt out for now… difficult to tell but there is a piece of clear plastic over the terminal bars to protect from shock… there is a separate .315A fuse between the 24V DC PLC power supply and the load (servo and lights) and a .5A fuse for the main power feed. The PLC power supply also powers the conventional empty reward tray and jackpot light (30V bulbs). There are three terminal bars ( one ground / common, one PLC power and inputs, and one load power)

PLC programming is a challenge. ‘nuf said…

Wow! looks great! That is the closest I've ever seen of the elusive "Circuit" vintage. It's a shame...I don't know what an unmodified one looks like. I do know that I want one to put next to the "Powerflash" that I don't have yet!

Max?Does yours work? That is main thing?Just for you... I did add a cheat switch to mine... It is hidden under the bottom tray. Think I'm also going to modify the program to have the "TIRE" open more...

I know mine doesn't work in its current state because I bought it from another member who lives near mopar and he took a look at it and said all the diodes are blown so I can't test it till I get those replaced. Great idea about putting the switch under the tray. That way it doesn't make it jump out and you can't hit it by accident.

Thought this would be slightly more fun: Hit any of the microswitches (upper right or left WIN pocket or left or right car) and TIRE opens. Each time a microswitch is hit; center lights gets incremented until G is reached (5 hits) and TIRE closes.

Kind of difficult to explain / understand but maybe there are some other ideas?

keep in mind that it only increases in increments when a ball lands in the open tire... if while the tire is open a ball lands threw one of the two green passthrews the tire will close... its actualy kinda hard to get all 5 in the tire to finish the race...

On my machine the electro mechanical drum thing is blown; couldn't even find them for sale anywhere anymore.

Anyhow, like you said; it is near impossible to get the lights illuminated / win the race. If one was fortunate enough to win the race, there really is no additional jackpot. My thought was to have the tire open as often as possible and lights blinking on and off as often as possible.

Thanks for the video, nice camera work as always!

I have them almost all recreated. (the one you want is the one that isn't finished.)

If anyone wants them I can send you the file and you can go and print your own. (File type doesn't really matter I can change it to basically what ever the printer needs.)

    Special Thanks to Philip Potts!
This video shows a few additions to the programming. The first is a "start up mode" that opens the NISHIJIN tire and flashes the lights - then closes the tire. Second is a "waiting mode" that flashes lights 2 & 3. And last is the normal game cycle that opens the NISHIJIN tire and then lights the "CircuiT". The cheat button was pushed to run through the normal game cycle.
