We seem to keep having the same topic going in many threads.... coin conversion.
It's like buying a 65 Mustang, stock, and converting it to run on diesel. Why? These are made for tokens and that is all that keeps them legal in some states. Leave them stock and enjoy them. If you're in a state where you can have vegas slots, buy one.

    WELL STATED !

I wouldn't been able to retire a few years ago @ age 51 if I had put quarters in a Pachislo

    Heres another couple of links.....
    http://www.ohiogaming.com/pachisloconversion.htm
    http://www.windycityslots.com/pachislo/convert.htm

I converted over one of my machines. I initally caused myself a number of coin input errors. After an afternoon of adjustments the coins went in great. After another week or so of hopper errors. I figured it wasn't worth it and converted it back to tokens. I then kind of clued in that regardless of what I did to the machiine. Ie adding on the Autostop mod & bandit arm etc. I was never going to have the Vegas machine I desired.....so I left it as it was and then went out and bought a few of the IGT vegas machines. These came with bill validators, were setup to use tokens, autostopped. However after having played the Pachilo for a couple of weeks I actually found the Vegas systems boring. There is no interactivity or skill required. Lots of my friends have now had the opportunity to play both and they all migrate to the Pachilo for its interactivity.

Here is a good disipation on why to to use tokens.

One of the core arguments I keep reading over and over is the cost of quarters vs. tokens... what about converting the machine to nickels? Is this a fairly easy mod? The money works out the same way and it is fun to play with real money (even if it is a very small amount). My friend's dad has an antique nickel machine at his house and every time I go over there I bring a few nickels (and lose them all), but it is really fun. Seeing as every game would cost $.75 with quarters is waaay too steep, so that is out of the question... so I guess what I am asking is:
    1. is there an easy nickel mod for a magic pulsar
    2. should I wait it out and not convert anything
    3. is there a mod to have 1 quarter = 1 play instead of 3 tokens/quarters a play

thanks, these boards are very useful for a first timer

Someone here correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a nickel mod involve major reworking of the hopper? Just the slight difference in size between quarters and tokens can cause hopper problems. I wouldn't think that the hopper would function at all with something as small as a nickel unless seriously modified. Any thoughts?

Yep like I said earlier in this thread : A friend sold a Pachislo that was converted and ended up having to buy a new hopper and talk his customer into keeping it token only. My friend basically ended up eating the sale as he had to credit the customer a sum for it not being converted afterall plus providing a new hopper.

    Let the converter beware !!

I had a buddy who was into woodworking that was looking into creating inserts for the hopper so a quarter wouldn't get jamed as often. I suspect this technique would actually work better for a nickle.

The problem with the token/quarter was that the insert ring was going to have a overall thickness of less than 1/8th. Anyway you look at it, that isn't very strong but it would glue well to the hopper. The downside of this is that with all of the quarters the wood gets dented and easily and needs to be replaced every now and again.

I tried to find a metal washer like this but I didn't have much luck. The other challenge with the metal is the adhesive. With a wooden insert and carpenters glue. I could always remove it easily. The metal to plastic glue is more of a chemical melt and there would not be a lot of going back.

In this case coverting the coin mech to use a nickle would probably poise the largest challenge as a nickle is a lot thicker than a token.

Having gone down this road. I am more inclined to just leave the machine as is.

Popular "themes" have been to mint your own tokens. Or get a bill changer.
