Default Adding the missing light to my Nishijin A

I've just finished fixing my first Pachinko, a Nishijin A recycler.

Right away I noticed that the player can barely see the Jackpot see saw through the window. It's just too dark in there and I feel the action taking place adds real animation to the game.

I added a 5-lug solder strip because I may be expanding the electronic modifications in the future. I tied the power (+)(-) and the jackpot switch to the strip terminals. The existing lights are screw base, and I found a 6v bulb and screw base which I salvaged from an old radio some time ago. I drilled a large hole through the Pachinko see saw cover for the socket and secured it with a screw. I wired the new light to the terminal strip.

It works great and I think it's probably the most effective lighting modification I could do, keeping within the context of vintage of the machine. (Not LED etc)

    Action:
The ball falls into the tulip, the playfield center light and the new jackpot window light come on to show the balls being dumped out, then goes out as the see saw reloads. I like it a lot.

I imagine someone has probably already did this mod, but it worked so well I wanted to post it.
The green tape on the wires is temporary.

Awesome mod and post!! Love the placement of the light and the wiring diagram/documentation you created!!

This post should be made into a "sticky" so that we can find it when helping others who come to seek help with wiring.

I have been thinking about doing something like that to a machine (my other idea was to make the green boxes on that part light up. the room is there you just need to stick a bulb in) Glad to see that someone else had the same idea and that it worked.

The wiring diagram shows a separate switch for the empty ball hopper light. Follow the blue wire and you will see it switches the ground ( - ) wire that connects to the correct bulb. The jackpot lights are switched on the red ( + ) wire.

JACKSJE4 is right, my jackpot see saw light is connected in parallel with the center jackpot light and the hopper empty remains the separate circuit it always was.
I could have simply piggy-backed a wire from the existing center jackpot light and connected it to my new see saw light... which is essentially what I did except I ran it through a terminal strip.

It isn't clear why the designers put one switch on one side of the power bus and one switch on the other side. Both could be put on the same side and have it work just as well.
I had once considered that it may have saved them a foot of wire but that's apparently not the case.

    A mystery it is.

I should also note for those who use 9volt batteries for their lights:

A 2nd light will drain your battery twice as fast. The difference shouldn't be noticable for those who use a 6volt lantern type battery because it carries much more current than a 9volt.
A 2nd light shouldn't make any difference for those powering the lights with a wall plug or transformer.

I made the wiring explanation much simpler with these two animated GIF files. If it seems confusing to you then see the Original wiring diagram first, it is simpler to see the path without the extra lamp and terminal strip. Once you understand the original wiring, the modified one will be easier to understand.

A previous owner of this machine thought this Model A needed more lights...

Was able to fix them and they are all "ON" in this picture. Jackpot switch lights up center and clear window. Empty reward tray lights upper left corner and rest are on all the time...

That is a lot of lights. How bout a pic of the back I'd like to see how they wired it.

Also what are those big circle things next to the green lights?

Those are mirrors... not really my taste but they are really stuck on there and the lights are 5/8" through holes!

I'm not sure how to get the two green squares next to the window to be illuminated? Did I miss that answer?

Here is the picture you requested... Not sure if the wiring is all that visible...
or very safe for that matter... no fuses !

Max, you are too young to remember the disco era.

Lights, Mirrors and Saturday Night Fever all influenced Pachinko!

You are correct, it has been done before. I haven't got it yet...it should arrive Thursday or Friday. Here is a pic he sent me. Can't wait to see it arrive!

Are you talking about the yellow thing above the payout tray? I think it is a JP switch. It looks like the yellow thing below the ball hopper, which I think is the low ball switch. They are cell phone pics and don't enlarge well. I'll post a new thread when it arrives.
