Default E Ring - Retaining Ring

Pachinko machines have a lot of E Rings or retaining rings. I think they are measured by the diameter of the portion of the shaft they are attached to but not sure.

Does anyone know what the common sizes are and can one use a snap ring instead? Where can one purchase them?

Any tools that work better than regular pliers? There are all sorts of snap ring tools but not for such small sizes.

I can't seem to find them on the internet in the small hobby sizes, maybe just not looking at right place or for right size.

    THANKS !

Search under e-clips. Measure the outside diameter of the shaft, not the groove. I've tried snap-rings, but like the e-clips better. I use fine needlenose pliers (jewelry size) to hold them while popping them off with a miniature screwdriver.
    Gotta catch 'em all Pa-chink-o

Of course you've probably already tried your local hardware store.
I've always used pliers, sometimes with a small blade screwdriver.

I really wish someone could find a source for these. I pop them on and off with some small bent needlenose pliers easily enough, but sometimes these little microscopic things get lost...

I buy them frequently at Lowes and ACE hardware. i also use the jewelry pliers to snap them on or off. One more tip: i have a telescoping magnet thingy that i use when they get lost on the floor. I wave it back and forth over the floor in my shop and usually find most of the e clips that got away from me. (i found the magnet thingy at ACE).

One thing I'm finding is since most the local harrdware stores and the assortments you find (Harbor Freight has a similuar one to what Lou mentioned) they are all standard , not metric so they usually don't fit as tight unless you bend them in. I did find one local store that could order metric e clips, but his supplier had a $35.00 minimum. He suggested McMaster-Carr, and this reminded me to go look at it. Here's the link for the metric e clips:

They also have an metric assortment & the special pliers if you really want them. I find a mechanics scribe works well as you can wiggle it off slowly, and do keep that magnet around. Someone also suggested Fastenal in a different post as another source.
