No key and..
"This appear to have developed an intermittent fault where sometimes it fails when you turn the knob to send the balls into the machine. Not sure how easy this will be to fix or even if it can be fixed."

Is this an easy fix?

Could be something silly like either they are not making, or dirt is preventing, a proper contact with the knob and grounding ring when they are shooting??

It acts like a loose or dirty connection to the shooting knob. On the inside of the door follow the wireing to the shooter mech and make sure the terminals are solid, then go from there.
