Need help with an idea

I am trying to replace the chrome finish on some pay pockets. I was using a silver paint pen and it just didn't look right so I am trying foil stamping and it looks a lot better than the pen. But I can't get even coverage on the raised area. Has anybody tried this before? I am using an iron, I don't have the $3000 plus to get a stamp machine just to see if this will work. I tried putting a t-shirt over the iron to give it padding to help force it into the lower areas. Although it did perform better, the weave of the t-shirt showed up on the pay pocket due to the excessive heat of the iron. I've tried cardboard and paper over the iron, I even tried a soldering iron. None of these worked very well and the sodering iron was just way too hot. Does anybody have an idea of a good temperature range for foil stamping that won't melt the plastic on the pay pocket? Any and all tips or ideas would be appreciated.

How about a reverse casting on which you would place the paint and transfer to your finished item?

I don't know anything about foil stamping, but there are foiling kits available in craft stores that do not have heat involved. You brush on a special contact cement, let it dry to a tacky finish and then rub a foil transfer on it and the foil will transfer to the tacky surface. It is very similar to gold or silver leafing.
