    Eureka!

    Problem solved.

First off, thanks to everyone for firing ideas my way.

Extra special thanks to N.I.T. for the detailed pics and especially his time! When you read my fix you'll see why I have to give this back to you: youme

As I was jumping the coin mech to the pins per your suggestion, I noticed that everytime I would let the door swing shut a bit, the door wiring grouping (big lump of grey and green wires running to the motherboard) was ever so slightly rubbing on a metal bracket. I cut the plastic strap holding the door grouping "in place" and examined the back of it.

Sure enough, grabbing my glasses I saw that the constant rubbing was enough to wear through the plastic sheathing and thin cable of 1 wire...the one wire I needed to get this thing going again.

I can't believe that the slight back and forth motion on this wire, taking place only when I opened and closed the door, was enough to wear through this 1 data cable. It seems like the equivalent of tunneling out of prison with a spoon. Then again I have had the machine for 8 trouble free years before this.

I wouldn't have noticed the break in the wire without my glasses because at first glance it looked like a smudge, the other wires looked fine, and these wires so thin. I also wouldn't have seen it without freeing the wire from the plastic tie holding the grouping to the inside wall of the machine.

At least I found a pretty handy forum!
Thanks again and see you on the boards.
