Default brand spanking new club rodeo machine!

Here is the deal. I have been out of town due to a family emergency, however, I received a shipment that my neighbor accepted for me. I asked him to unpack the machine and look at it for me to be sure there was no shipping damage (there was none).

The machine is a club rodeo. At first my neighbor said the glass over the reels seemed to be hazy or something, which gave me a great deal of concern. I asked him if the machine exhibited any signs of wear to which he responded "no, but the chrome seems to have a hazy film as well." I asked him to plug it in to see if it worked and he reported that there was a "new TV smell" coming out of it (as if it were brand new).

When he told me this, a light bulb came on in my head. I asked him to check the play glass carefully and tell me if it really seems to be jacked up. Upon further investigation, my neighbor discovered that the haziness was caused by electrostatic film of the type that is used to protect new Plexiglas. The same applied for the chrome cover.

In addition, he told me that there were no scratches whatsoever on the outside of the machine and the inside appeared pristine. I asked him if there were any punch-outs in the case, and he replied "no".

I have not had a chance to inspect the machine myself yet, but it sure does sound like the machine is brand spanking new!

If this is the case, what should I do about selling it (since this was my intention all along).

How much do you all think a brand new (never used in Japan) Club Rodeo machine should sell for?

Thanks in advance for the advice. ~spooner

I don't think it will make much difference in the price. Syscom currently has 2 different models that are brand new. They are listing them for $199 each, which can't be much more than $10 or $20 over the price they would have listed them at if they were used.

Since new or used on a pachislo machine probably wouldn't make much difference to most people, you'd have to find someone that would care. This means casting a very big net. So your best bet would probably be eBay, really making a big deal of the "newness" of the machine. The original cost of a "new" machine, the "rareness" of finding a "new" machine, etc.

But, you better have some way to back up your claim that the machine is new. I don't think your visual inspection when you get home would be enough. You should check with the original seller to see if they have any history on the machine. And make sure they didn't put the plastic film on.

You should also look to this forum for comments from other people that might have received a machine with film on it. Do they know if it was done at the factory (new machine) or by the shipper in Japan to protect it during shipment (old machine), or maybe even by the US vendor, to protect it after being refurbed.

Thanks for the info Gwarzin. I have not personally seen the machine, so I don't even have the visual inspection angle to go on at this point for the newness of the machine.

There is also no way I can trace the machine back to Japan for its pedigree, so that won't really work either. I guess I have just been taken in by the claims of some dealers on eBay that new machines are worth $2,000 (to who)?

Unless there are coin counters on the machine that are at 0, I have to assume the machine is used (even if it is pristine).

By the way, I went to the syscom site and did not see the new machines that you mentioned. Can you point me to them?

Thanks again for the info and feedback. ~spooner

On that same note, how do we know when buying a "new" machine from Syscom we are actually getting one ourselves? Is it coming in a manufacturers original box? Are they providing any proof of their claim?

I'm sure these are in fine condition, but what about the trip over here? If it was loaded the machine on top of machine style we've seen in pictures of the containers, even if it was new, chances are pretty good it got scratched somewhere along the way.

Here's a link to the page with the brand new Gian on it. The manufacturer must have had to unload a bunch of new machines, because I remember one other vendor selling a brand new Gian on eBay a few months back.

    http://www.pachislo.com/pachislo/standard-2.html

And here's the page with the brand new Ric Debut on it. Again, there must be a bunch of these available brand new, because one "customizer" selling on eBay is using the Debut and then promoting the fact that his machines are brand new and not the typical used machines.

I finally made it home tonight and got to take a quick look at the "new" Club Rodeo. I must say if it is not brand new, it certainly looks it. It is absolutely pristine and has that "new stereo smell". There are no punch outs and there are/were factory seals all over the place in addition to the protective film.

As far as it "sucking" I'm not sure if I can agree. It seems like a pretty cool machine to me; although I understand your point about numerous brand new machines (of the same model) saturating the market indicating a sucky machine

In any event, I really appreciate the feedback regarding additional value for a new machine. The fact is that I did not pay any more for this machine than I would have for a used machine, so I would not feel comfortable making a huge markup by selling it as new ... well, I would probably get over it

Club Rodeo is a pretty nice machine. You're going to like the music and "equalizer" looking graphics it shows.

I bought one for my wife, because the name Club Rodeo" (Long before PachiTalk) it is not anything Rodeo, more like techo music.
And I put on and stained a wood laminate on the box, was real proud of myself. Wraped it with gift wrap ans big bow. Gave it to her for birthday. She played it and looked at me, like what this music ? Well now it is downstairs with the other ones that are sold to walk ins.

You said it! If I bought a pachislo for my wife, it would be sort of like Fred Flintstone buying a bowling ball for Wilma (knowing she would never use it so he gets a new ball, right?)

The Club Rodeo can definitely be misleading if you concentrate on the Rodeo part of the name and not the Club part.

I will have to spend a little time with it before I can form an opinion.

By the way, did I happen to mention that it looks brand new? ~spooner
