    Talking Wednesday find: Narita???

    Look what I found!

Originally purchased in Okinawa in the 50s. Raised two generations of kids, then sold to me by the gentleman who brought it over! It works perfectly. According to the owner, still has the original glass.

    I'm kind of stunned...

That is one waaay cool machine!! Congrats on the find!!

It looks nearly identical to the one sharmoni bought last year, and in a little better condition than his.

A rare find indeed and one I would LOVE to have in my personal collection!! If you can, please post a video on youtube showing the game in play and the how the mechanics on the back work. It's a really unusual design to say the least.

    Congrats!

Thanks! I had seen and read through that thread; it was very helpful in recognizing the odd back configuration... I'd have otherwise thought I was looking at a stripped down or incomplete machine!

Interestingly, this machine has two feed holes. I remember that sharmoni's has the rightmost hole blocked by a plate. This one has a functional feed-hole plate. Another difference is that this one is wired for a jackpot light. I think I'll even be able to get the original leaf switch to work.

It seems remarkably complete, and the mechanism pays every time, provided the balls don't come right on top of one another. Even then, it doesn't jam... the extra ball just drops in with the jackpot.

I will do a video soon. I've been doing little bits of buffing up here and there and it is gratifying how well it is cleaning up. The worst defects are: one missing pin, snapped off below the cell surface, and a rusted-through cap-thing(?) that redirects a foul ball out, a missing frame around the jackpot-viewing hole, and a missing bell. There's also some rust that has destroyed the chrome plating in a few places... but surprisingly little, given the age.
