Default Vintage Sankyo need help with ID and more

Hi all, I have this old, dirty machine I would like to get going again just to ad to my gameroom. I have read a little but I need help with the lights and a power supply. I have read a 9 volt battery may be the answer, so I hooked one up and nothing. Maybe the bulbs are burnt I don't know yet. I also need a model number, I know it's a Sankyo and has been sitting for a long time. It's probably a basket case, but I like to tinker. I would love a pdf of a manual for this in english! ;-) Thanks with any help.

    Welcome to PachiTalk!

First I suggest that you review the following thread and document:

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...ine-works.html

While it was written for a Nishijin Model B, your machine is VERY similiar.

As for the model number or name, well, the vintages really didn't have that type of designation except for a very few. You'll find that this designation really won't allow you to find any more information that you would otherwise.

As for the lighting... well.. there's lots of post on that along with diagrams. The wiring is very simple and straight forward. My first suggestion is to locate the bulbs and pull them one at a time and simply connect them to a power source by touching wires to the sides and end to see if they light. Many times the bulbs (which are normally 10v) are fine but the sockets could be corroded or the switches dirty or a wire pulled off or some other simple to fix issue.

Well.. that should get you started.

    Good luck!

BTW: You'll need about 150 balls to test and about 300 to basic play and about 800 to 1,000 to play regularly. There needs to be enough balls in the hopper in the back to allow the machine function. You can see where there is enough balls in it because the ramp lever will be pushed down.

And your machine is no where near a basket case. It actually appears to be in very good shape!

Well, as I said, I love tinkering...I got the jackpot bulb to work and the hopper empty bulb to work...thanks to you guys at Pachitalk! I put a ball in the big center target and the light came on. I think the game will work, I have about fourteen balls!:-( Guess I'll have to buy some;-)

I have another question...I'm supposing that having about 500 balls in the thing and hitting the jackpot...all the balls I get paid bounce off the bell right?

    Welcome!!

Yep, on the vintage machines the balls pass by a bell to make your payout that much more special.

That is correct. The machine works strictly on gravity and the jackpot balls bounce on the bell to ring it. No electricity needed for play. The electrical is only for the lights.

    Welcome to PachiTalk!!

I really like the sound of the little bell in the vintages, actually a couple of my 'moderns' still use the bell too even though they have electrics and LCD screens etc, etc

I'm psyched! Thanks for all the input. I have gone from EM pinball, to SS pinball, to video arcade games and have kind of peaked at twenty three games no newer than 1984 and now I'm so stoked just to have something new. This kind of reminds me of those first few EM pins that I got home and cleaned up...I must say that I wish there were more lights on a vintage for a flashy show, but oh well. I'm sure once I get 500 or so balls my kids and I will love it. One more tech question...does one lube any of the linkages/joints etc in the back of these? I know it's a no-no in EM pinball...so I thought I'd ask. I'll post when I get some new balls...Vintage Pachinko guys are on vaca so I can't get any until after July 26th! Sad thing is that I was in San Antonio a week ago about two miles from their location!

Definitely no stuff like WD-40, which ends up collecting dust and gunk and ends up gumming up the works.

If you do the eBay thing, look up golden state traders on there (there's a thread here called "pachinko balls" that they started). Super quick and cheap shipping for balls from them, with great prices.

I think I'm going to wait until the folks at Vintage Pachinko get back from vaca. I was really impressed with their website and all the info they have there. Yeah, I agree about WD-40...it is really NOT a lubricant more of a water repellent. Maybe TRI-FLO?

As HopeChest states, no lubricants of any kind should be applied. If you have parts that are not moving freely, then best thing you can do is disassemble them and clean them really well. Use plastic cleaner and metal polish where applicable (see thread regarding "Tips for Cleaning" at top of Vintage Pachinko forum for recommendations on cleaners to use). Pachinko machines are designed to work 15-20 years without any lubricants as long as they are kept clean.

As a footnote, I just restored a machine where someone had used WD-40 to lubricate the machine. Needless to say, the cell and playfield, as well as all pockets and trays were jet black - coated with the greasy grime and residue of WD-40 mixed with dust and dirty finger oils. It was gross!

Glad you are enjoying your Pachinko machine!

O.K., yeah, no lubes was my first thought. I guess I need those balls to see if it works first! Oh I need balls! Can't wait!

Welcome and congrats on a sweet-looking machine!!!

If you haven't already, check out Moparformances model A/B/C videos, stickied in the Vintage section. They helped me understand how the infernal contraptions work.

Careful... they multiply! I've gone from zero to nine since my first post, less than a month ago!!

Hey !! welcome !! I have the exact same machine , i love it !!! the center payout is neat, when the ball goes in the first time, the flowers open up, the second time, the ball falls through to the two flowers below .

i had to at first clean my machine up . The people here helped me through it. My shooter mech. was all gunked up and the shooter did not work. I had to open the machine up and open the shooter mech. door . Quite a clean up was needed. But now it works like a charm !! Didn't get the lights hooked up yet, Let us know how its going !!
