Good to hear it's held up well.
Any semi-specialty or specialty item I've used in my refurbs have all had to be ordered. Almost nothing available for me locally either.
The mylar sheet goes by the name "Duralar" and is available at dickblick.com
    A 40"X25" 5mil adhesive sheet is a little over 8 bucks.
Both my T-Bird Power Flash and Jan Ball Dragon have mylar.

I will look into it, but I think I have emailed this company and have not received a reply.

The material is fairly durable, it's the same material that they use to wrap cars in. It's washable, waxable and does take some abuse.

The car wrap stuff you used is the same as what I used for the two machines I mentioned above. Duralar is not exclusive to dickblick.com, you can get it at lots of places even craft stores like Michaels. Problem is finding the adhesive kind in a large enough sheet. For that I had to go online.

Dude. That is beautiful. Some of the best work I've seen. Very nice work.

I don't do vintage (yet), but that .pdf seems sticky-worthy to me.

Thumbs up Re: Done with my second playing field replacement (with step-by-step pdf)

Wow is all I can really say, I thought the machine my dad had that I grew up with was pretty much a write-off, but this gives me a lot of hope. I thought I'd have questions, but the pdf was well done.

    Thanks, you

    Excellent tutorial. Thanks!

My only suggestion is larger pics. I think it would be cool to see someone make a video (think New Yankee Workshop) of a complete rebuild.

Every time I click on the link for the PDF, it says the file is damaged and can't be repaired. Is anyone else getting that error?

I just want to add some info that I found out while I was replacing the playfield on one of my machines.

After you remove the mylar instead of sanding down all the extra paper take a squirt bottle and fill it with some water and spray the paper and then use a putty knife and scrap it up. Most of the paper will come off quite easily. After you scraped it all off take a razor blade and then just scrape down the background one last time (make sure the board is fairly dry) and that you are holding the blade close to vertical (it will dull the blades fast but you should only need one to do the whole board as long as you start with a new blade). If there is any paper left after you used the razor blade take a scotchbrite pad and sand down the area. Remember you only want it smooth who cares what it looks like. And then if there is any left after that you'll have to bust out the sand paper. (Usually you don't need it if you do it right)

Just a trick I figured out and though I’d share it.

    100 machines and counting...

Do you have the number of man hours for this technique, (after removing nails) from the time you start to pull off old background till you start to apply the new one?

Not exactly but I'd say you could have it done in maybe 30 minutes at the least.
