    Question Vintage Popeye with Knob??

Ok, here is a Popeye (Nishijin B) they usually go for a good amount...its not in the best shape but I was going to post it anyway...And then I saw something odd..I thought it looked like someone screwed a doorknob to the front..WTF??

But looking closer it looks like it was added in Japan maybe?? Can't see it attached to much on the back?? What the heck is it..can anyone read what it says??

I've seen something like this before, not sure what it does.

There's some stuff missing from the back, I see a pulley over by the transformer and an additional lever attached to the shooter lever in the back.

I saw that yesterday myself. Maybe its just a knob to pull and hold the door open when accessing the back?!

I thought that too, but it's attached to a part of the frame that doesn't open. Not 100% sure, but what I get for the first character of the larger ones is 'electric'

maybe there was an electric shooter option? there seems to be an extra crank with pivot point (white ring) on the back of the shooter axle... maybe there was a motor you could add and by twisting the knob get it to shoot...

darn it, you have me so curious that I might need to bid, just to find out!

I looked at the picture of your nishijin A that had a shooter (the one that was supposed to be mine...), and there is a whole motor assembly that is missing... don't think it would be easy to find unless YJA has some spare auto shooter motor you could adapt.

What a cool and ingenious way to do it. I wondered how they adjusted the shot strength! Thanks for sharing the close up and the explanation! It's a lot more simpler that I imagined it would be!
